March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

I agree, Kelly. Our lives will all be a lot easier when we are not quite so sleep deprived.

Emera is totally right "Baby Sense" Is a very helpful book. Because of it I started plying with a special toy for diaper changes and Eliott loves it, he used to scream through the whole process. I also learned that if I'm in the grocery store and he gets upset I just have to put him in the sling, pull up the sides to cover his face and talk to him, it calms him down quickly.

Right now he has a stuffy nose and has to breathe through his mouth. I can tell this bugs him and he's also blowing tons of bubble which creates drool....

Today we had a lovely poosplosion to clean up in the parking lot of Walmart. Of course it had to be a super seedy one that took a bunch of wipes to clean up.

I'm trying to feed Eliott every 2 hours but that is really stressful as a feed takes up to an hour. If I am feeding him every two hours I pretty much can't leave the house. I've been trying to pump after a feed but I get so little it hardly seems worth it. I really hope he has good weight gain by Tuesday.

Did any if you read this? https://www.babydoc.com.au/faqs/Bore_Your_Baby_to_Sleep.htm Its referred to in Widgers article about minimizing stimulation. Really interesting. Will defo be doing that.

Widger - thanks for that, an interesting read but I'll read again when I'm properly awake!
Mouse - meant to say great birth story, good to read a positive induction story and sounds like your doc was a good one.
WT - as ever I think you're amazing for dealing with 2 at once! Much like blessed, Kelly and 6lilpigs with their big families !!
Glow - I meant to say if you're popping into visit your work did u want to pop in for a coffee afterwards? I'm only a couple of mins down the a56. I'll even defrost a carrot cake or one of mitch's cookies! And if you do then yep I'd happily accept the pump. I'm in all day weds at the moment so let me know. Rest of NW crew we should get a date arranged!!

So after a fractious evening Z has so far only woken at 11.30 for a feed ( went down at 9), DH got him back down at 12 then he's woken at 2.30 again for a feed and unfortunately a nappy. Change. (heard huge poo mid feed) I presume I should change if I hear that rather than leave him even though it's woken him up! At least I've probably had 4-5 hours sleep already - trying to get to an antenatal girls house for coffee tomorrow morning at 11. It's the first time I've met up with them since Z was born so hope I get there vaguely on time and looking human!

Thanks lads.

Wouldluv. I do skin to skin with her, but during the day when she is stressed out and screaming, taking her clothes off is her least favourite thing and sends her into overdrive, so the only time we get to do it is after a change when I am feeding her, which is when she is all quiet and sleepy anyway

Emera, I can't argue at all with the stress thing. After 3 days solid of visitors and I think we are on day 9 or 10 of screaming, I do feel tired and emotional. I guess I need to deal with that better. I just don't really feel like I'm dealing with anything well at the moment.

She's slept for 3 hours, which though unusually bad for her, I know is ok of a baby her age. I just hope she goes down again easily. Fx.

Lozza, sounds like a much better night!!!

Is everyone still doing a change at feed time? And even if it's only wet? I'm still doing it, but wondered how necessary it was as its every 1.5-2 hours during the day?

To add (amusing) insult to injury, D just broke off after only 5 mins so I squeezed my nipple to check the flow of milk and squirted myself right in the eye. Humph!

Ok, that's funny!

Missy - thanks! I know over tiredness is Z's problem. Will try some of that!

Loo I only change him when I know he's pooed which is most feeds but not all, especially when they're so close together!
Not long now til you're in your house and a much calmer environment, and hope Al loves the card, sure you'll be instantly forgiven! X

I think Keira has a radar that senses when I'm trying to get chores done. She has been up ALL day fussing. She just now settled enough to stay in her cradle but I am dreading our 11:30 feed. I did somehow manage to get everything out of the gift bags, the gift bags folded and tissue folded. I'm now in the process of washing all the washclothes and towels and sheets she got. I think it might take me a month to sort through everything at this rate. It's hard to do it and console a screaming little girl.

I need to read through those articles still. First I need to take advantage of the quiet and get more of this done!

Yep, Missy, I liked that one!

It seems like there is so much pressure to interact with a baby when sometimes all they want is to know they're not floating through the universe alone! G started fussing after her dipe change and I swaddled her and stuck a pacifier in her mouth and carried her around without talking/looking at her... She fell right to sleep! Now she's asleep in my arms.

The one thing I want is to spend more time cuddling her in a non-boob context. She seems so big to me all of a sudden... Don't want to waste these tiny days.

Thanks for the articles ladies!! All makes sense but so do a lot of things!! I guess we all need to figure out What works.

I almost wish I never read that second article - I feel so badly for Keira because we always thought she had a terrible time straining non stop to poo but it was just overstimulation!

I'm going to try confining her to her bed for the next few days and see if that helps us get back to normal.

Thanks for link Missy, didn't see it on the article. Will try some of it out. Bore our babies senseless seems the answer then :)

So far, not bad... 1.30, 4.30... after this feed though he's always more restless so will snuggle next to him. He defo comfort sucks at this feed (well after he's finished but can feel and hear.his tummy gurgling so prob why)

Loo - middle of night I always change nappy in order to wake.B up a little for another top up as he gets sleepy on the boob.

Anyway. b is asleep across my chest so better get rest as got two under two to look after on my own tomorrow eek!!

Good luck with the two of them today Widger!
Z went back to sleep soon after I last posted I think at 3.30 and just woke up now for a feed. A 3 hour stretch of sleep at last, hooray!

Those with 2 little ones....Come join my thread

Click the link on my siggy :winkwink:

Ugh, G is so hungry she won't settle... And then when she does, she farts and I feel compelled to make sure she doesn't have a poo dipe. Which wakes her up.

I'm soooooo tired!

Been doing this reduced stimulation thing since the last feed and she is STILL constantly screaming. At this rate I'm not going to make it out of my bedroom today let alone the house

What if she has actually got tummy ache? Yes, she is screaming cries of pain and bringing her knees up, all signs of over stimulation according to the articles, but she is also trumping and filling about 7 dirty nappies a day which suggests tummy ache?

I feel like I'm going round in circles. I've just put her back on my breast as she is screaming the house down despite the fact that I am not making eye contact being very quiet and cuddling her.

Loo does D come off the breast calm and satisfied on her own or do you limit her feeds? If she always comes off screaming do you win her then offer the breast again?
Did the doctor check for or rule out thrush? And maybe think about cutting all dairy out of your diet for a couple of weeks and see if it helps? I'm just racking my brains for ideas for you, and if its not overstmulation (which it still could be) then I'm trying to think about what else you could look at to at least reduce her crying sessions. Harsh as it seems, you might just have a crier :( good news is that it tends to reduce a lot after 6 weeks, and you'll see a different baby!

OK trying to catch up....

expressing - i express 120ml as G always takes about 100ml. Ive only expressed three times though as dont want to do it too much whilst milk is establishing. G gets on with the avent bottle ok-ish... but some dribbles down his chin. Prob mummy not doing it right.

piles - i see some of you ladies have them, well thanks to STUPID IRON TABLETS i
defo do. have never had them before and they are HORRIBLE. GAH.

sleep - last night G slept from 11pm till 5am! score. but boobs were rock hard. Thankfuly since then he has already fed 4 times.... making up for it :haha:

waula -
everytime i see your avatar of N, i think (briefly) that its G!!!! we hv good looking little boys :)

routines - no routine here yet, just going with flow and enjoying heaps of cuddles whilst G will still let me :haha:

Baths - G is not a sickly baby so we bath him every 2/3 days. I would like to do it every 2 days ideally but i just run out of time sometimes.

Loo - i defo dont change the nappy with every feed, i just change it if i see/hear it needs to be or if i think ''mmm hasnt bn changed in a while''. This may not be the best thing to do but i swear its one of the reasons G sleeps well etc - as he does NOT like nappy changing time

I dont really have much advice loo as im so new at this, and G is very chilled out... but he gets VERY un-chilled and cries ALOT if i feed him, think he is done, put him down..... and he is still hungry. I literally have to offer G my boob, he feeds, falls asleep or stops for 10 mins (sometimes longer) then offer again.... repeat... and then offer a third and inal time. This can take an hour BUT it means he is then settled for another 2 hours.

sorry i dont have any more advice then that hunni.... really hope it all gets better soon :hugs:

playtime - QUESTION: what do you all do for ''playtime''? If G is not feeding then he is sleeping... or looking about. If i lay him on activity mat... he just lays there. I feel like im not doing enough or him???

weight - well i now have 6pounds left of baby weight to lose.... and about 2 stone of existing FAT :haha: Today is day one of actively trying to lose it so i i mention chocolate, masterchef, wotsits, monster munch or anyother delectable delight... please cyber slap me. From now on its veggies, fruit and bran! YUK!!!!

sorry ive not caught up on everything ive missed :nope: feel bad :(
