I think that I may qualify for it but I'm not sure how to go about it.

I'm stopping my job two weeks before my due date which means I'll have been working there for just over 26 weeks, which is the minimum amount of weeks right?

Does this mean i can apply for MA now, or do I have to wait until I have completed 26 weeks work.

When is the latest you can apply? Please help! Thanks xx

i just looked on the website and it dosent say. you maybe should ring the job centre and ask. you need to apply proof with payslips and i cant see them processing anything in till you have completed the 26 weeks. the test period is actually the 66 weeks leading up to the week before the week your baby is due. So have you dont any other work in that period. if you have then you can apply from 29 weeks and ask for it to be started from 38 weeks.

No, I was at college full-time before I started full-time work so I will just make the 26-week requirement!

I looked on a website and it said that you can claim it until your due date I thinkk.. so hopefully I won't miss out!

It also says that it's worked out from 13 weeks pay so you only need 13 weeks worth of pay slips for them right? xx

Hi can anyone help??

I was signed off work when I was 10 weeks pregnant due to a massive haematoma (bleeding in my womb). wasnt entitled to sick pay as I had only been employed by the company for 6 months. I have to make a claim for maternity allowance as I am only on a 15 hour contract but have been off sick all the way through the test periods, so my wage slips all show zero. Will i still be entitled to claim maternity allowance from the government? Any advice would be appreciated:thumbup:

The test period is the period of 66 weeks up to and including the week before the week your baby is due.

The Employment rule

You must have been employed and/or self-employed for at least 26 weeks in your 66 week test period. The 26 weeks do not have to be in a row and it does not matter how much you earn. You do not have to be actually physically at work to be employed or self-employed; you might be off work sick or have been on Statutory Maternity Leave for an earlier pregnancy for example.

the above statements are from direct.gov website for claiming MA. it sounds like you have not been off for all of your test period as the test period is 66 weeks.

you need to choose your 'best' wage slips for 13 weeks (when you got paid your normal amount) . provided you have worked for 26 weeks out of the 66 weeks prior to one week before your due date, you will be able to claim MA

ask at the CAB or job centre for help filling in the forms....
good luck

You can download the actual form for claiming and this gives all the info needed plus a ready-reckoner to work out your test period so you can see for definite when your claiming period is.
