Got a shock at work today to find out im NOT sutible to claim SMP from them :(

So now going down the MA road..

Filled out all the docs etc, put payslips in, MATB1, SMP1 Seems pretty easy as far as that goes, but wondering if there is anything they can knock you back on when trying to claim it?
Iv worked for the same company for 7 years so shouldnt be an issue with times or anything else as far as i can see

Thanks x x

I think as long as you have worked for long enough (26 weeks in the 66 weeks before baby is due) and as long as you can give them 13 weeks of payslips where you earned at least £30 a week on average, that's pretty much it. Just make sure you give them your best 13 weeks so that you are sure to get the max payment. I did it and it was really simple and straightforward; I think they make it pretty easy and the criteria aren't difficult to meet if you have worked normally.

Thats cool thanks so much :)

I am paid monthly so pay slips are monthly so it says to just send 4 if this is the case. I earn bang on the same every single month so doesnt make a differance to me dont think as i earn the same all the time

I have surprisingly found it straight forward so far

Cant send it off for another 5 weeks though, im so inpatient want to get it away now!

thanks :flower:

you should be able to claim if you have worked there for 7years?

Claim MA? Yeah i thought so but only started reading up on it today when i found out so just wanting to make sure i have grasped the regulations

Thanks

just out of interest.... why can't you get SMP?? Is it earning threshold?

thats what i eamn. If you have worked there for 7years then they should pay you SMP, have they said why not?

It doesnt matter how long i have worked there, its a case of money earned in the test period. (I have been back 2 years after being on maternity leave with DS, was full time before that) Now i only work 3 half days and £10 short of what you have to be earning for them to pay SMP

Unfortunatly if you do not meet the lower earnings limit for SMP, then you wont for MA, as its the same amount. £107 a week.

If you dont meet the lower earning limit for SMP then you wont for MA - you will just get 90% of your pay for 39 weeks x

Actually the earnings threshold to be eligible for MA is £30 per week average earnings.
If your average earnings are £135.45 or more then you will get £135.45.
If you earn less than £135.45 then you will receive 90% of your average earnings for up to 39 weeks.
With MA you get the same amount for the whole 39 weeks unlike SMP which gives you 90% of earnings for 6 weeks and then £135.45 for the remaining 33 weeks.
And the best thing is it's not taxable income. So none of it counts as income for tax credit purposes and you won't get taxed on it

Isn't that funny? On direct.gov it states that lel for ma is the 107 but further investigation on other sites does state the. £30. No wonder people get confused or don't bother!

No, thats right, if you dont get SMP then you can get MA at 90% of your pay for 39 weeks. So for example if you earn £100.00 a weEk, you will get £90.00 for 39 weeks Xx
