Maternity leave

I work for the NHS, I plan on going off at 36weeks and taking 9 months plus annual leave.

Definitely grateful i'm in uk. Also I'm lucky with my job in that if i say i want to start my maternity from my due date my work have to let me. But if baby arrives before then my maternity automatically starts the day after baby is born. If i decide in the last four weeks before due date i don't want to work anymore or i'm too ill its like going off sick but my maternity is back dated to then. It doesn't make sense for me to officially start maternity leave earlier. Its in my works maternity policy so it makes sense to take advantage of it... definitely recommend reading yours carefully just incase. Xxx

I work at a care home and theres no way i can do care until my due date as its very physical, i worked until 36 weeks with my first but i was in an office so i might finish about 34 weeks this time as my eldest is at school so i get some time to relax and sort the house out before the baby comes! I'm taking the full 9 months off.

I'll be taking annual leave from mid may, starting mat leave mid just with baby due at the end of June.

We get 26 weeks at 100% pay from my employer, so I'll definitely be taking 6 months. I'll probably take the 3 months at amp too so I'll be off for 9m plus all my holidays.

With my first I finished about 2 weeks prior to my due date this time round I'm hoping to finish 2-3 weeks before my due date and take some holiday to extend it until after the October half term so I can be off with my daughter too.

I've been wondering about this myself. I'm a freelancer and I work from home. Based on your experience, do you ladies think it would be easier to keep working closer to the end if I'm just going to be working at home on a computer? I'm just 15 weeks so I've got time to figure it out.

Personally, if you're working from home I'd keep working as late as possible. For the extra income more than anything :flower:

Guess it will all depend on how you are feeling within yourself though. You'll know when it's time to slow down :)

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing myself, thanks!

I started maternity leave at 37 weeks and it was the best thing I did, even though my baby girl didn't come till I was 39 weeks it gave me a couple weeks to sleep, rest and get any last things sorted and I was in so much pain with my ribs when pregnant when I finally left work the pain eased a tiny bit so I felt a little more comfortable in myself

I lost my job when I dealt with an SCH. But I was planning to go until about 35 weeks and then take about 2 years off. Up to 3 is possible but I'd at least like to start doing part time around 1 1/2 to 2 years. Depends on this lo too and how he feels about it :)
I'll keep up working from home the whole time though. Have to!

So good to see what everyone is up to! All you mums who get to work from home are so lucky! What kind of work do you's all do at home?

I decided i'll finish at 35 weeks this time! I'm already counting down the days lol

xx

You have to finish at least 2 weeks before your due date in Ireland. So I did this with DS1 and then went 9 days over, I had no other kids was living at home, I was so so bored!! with DS2 I was due to finish the 2 week but work told me to use my annual leave so I ended up finishing 3 weeks before my due date and went on time. With this 3rd bump again I have to finish the 2 weeks before hand but I'll actually be finishing up 4 +1/2 weeks really because right before my maternity leave is the Easter Mid-term (I work in college so will be off just have to use a couple of days annual to get the full 2 weeks) and the week before that is St.Patricks day which is a bank holiday here and because its a Thursday we are all getting the Friday off too!!

I am happy to finish early now will get to spend more time with the boys before new arrival and of course get house ready baby stuff ready etc...

So DS1 2 weeks (4 by time he was born), DS2 (3 weeks) & Bump3 (4.5 Weeks!)

:)
