Hi Girls,
Do any of you ladies know how I go about getting hold of my maternity notes and all the info about my labour (even a copy would do). I know the hospital kept them after I had lo, but am I entitled to access them?
Thanks x

yeah you have to write to somone at your hospital, ( cant rememeber who but your MW or GP should know ) and some hopsitals will charge you for a copy

Aw I'd quite like mine, just to remember as a keepsake :) xx

You can get them - give your hospital PALS (Patient advice and Liaison Service) department a ring and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

oooh I have been meaning to do this too - thanks for the memory jogger x

aww id love to have a copy of my notes. Does anybody know if there is a time limit? X

Not sure how long they keep notes for! I got mine to see exactly why I needed an emergency c section and seems to be really because of how big Phoebe was! Definitely worth getting. I had to pay a seach fee of £10 then an additionla £13 for the records. Maximum they can charge is £50

they keep them for a minimum of either 10 to 25 years!! and they are kept for 5-10 years after you die too!

you just need to request them, dont know if you can keep them tho

I just saw your tickers! Are you sick of midwives/doctors yet? :haha: i had enough of them with 1 pregnancy, let alone 2 back to back! Congratulations! Xxx

Ooh, I might get mine, although I clearly remember my midwife telling porkies as he wrote up the labour in the recovery room. Shortening my second stage was one of them - I know when I was fully dilated, and he wasn't even there but claimed it was after he arrived. Big fibber.

Oooh think i may request mine, didnt know you could tho. Thanks for the thread x

ooh, been wondering about this myself. I'd love to have mine as a keepsake.

I think both her tickers are about the same baby - 9 months is 40 weeks.
I wish I'd taken a photocopy of both my pregnancy notes and birth notes - I had no idea the MW took them away for good :( I loved reading over them. Do you think the hospital would be peeved if I requested them purely to have as a keepsake?
xx

me too katy, we can go -" look what you DID to us " I feel like a part of the story is missing when i read the neonatal discharge summary

Im sure they didnt note down my almost impromptu "moonpig" singsong. though....

This is a fab idea..But like everyone else would have no clue how to go about it!! I've sent my Auntie a message on FB as she's a MW & actually used to work at the hospital where I had DD so I'm hoping she may be able to shed some light. If I hear anything back from her I'll let you know!!!

lol dw - these things do happen after all :haha: My hospital said they've had many mums back for another baby 9 months later - they think they got pregnant in the hospital bed before they'd even left hospital with their first baby lmao!! xx

lol urm thanks but i only have the one!! lol!
same baby but one ticker is in weeks the other in months!!

:haha:

I photocopied mine. My midwife was the one who said to me that its a nice keepsake and let me keep them an extra couple of days before she came to get them. Its really nice reading all the notes from labour cos i cant really remember anything at all anymore!
