Grrrrrrr!! Yesterday I had the urge to check the car seat in our new (new to us, it's not a new car) Ford Focus. I never thought there would be a problem, but I just wanted to put it in the car because obviously I am heading close to term and so really could happen any time!

Anyway, I can't believe it but our upgrade of a car - we had a Ford Fiesta and went for the focus cos it was bigger and the seat belts are just ridiculously small and won't go round the bloody car seat!! Thank god I didn't leave it until we were going into hospital!

We then tried it in my SIL fiesta and there's loads of room :dohh: seriously, I wouldn't even have thought it was a problem for it to fit in a bigger car!!
Anyway, at least we know we can get home from the hospital now via my SIL if needs be, but now we have to work something out!

Has anyone had this problem and anyone come up with solutions!?

you could buy yourself a base. either IsoFix or nonIsofix. the base should fit into your ford focus :) that way you can easily clip baby's seat in and out of the car really easily too :)

my friend had this problem in her fiesta with a M&P carseat. their solution was using a base

Yes! We had this problem with the Graco car seat we bought. When we went to the shop to get it, they said you won't find a car seat to fit a focus using just the seatbelt, you need to have a base. We got the base and it works fine now. x

We changed our focus cos of this!!
I think you can go for the easy fix base or get longer belts fitted?
The other thing I saw is that you can fit it by tipping it up first and then pushing the seat down into place once the belt is fitted, but I didn't like the idea of this- what if it wasn't down far enough and popped up with baby in? Also not helpful for when the baby is in the seat!!

We ended up changing as we wanted a seat we could easily switch between cars and our focus was getting a bit knackered anyway!!

it says on the maxi cosi site that you can'tt put a cabriofix in your car without a base (in the ford focus)

you should check on ebay for a base :) it's up to you on if you go for isofix or not. we got an Isofix base from tesco

I don't think we can fit the base as it's an older focus (T reg) so that's not an option unfortunately - I'd much prefer to fix it with isofix rather than worrying about the seatbelt! Why didn't we check before we bought it!! We just assumed a bigger car wouldn't be a problem! Stupid bloody short seat belts!!

Don't think the easyfix base uses isofix hun?

Edit- just checked- I meant the easybase hun. Sorry for the confusion!

ahh that looks like an option - from what I can see you put the seatbelts around the base then and just fit the seat onto the base?

Oh, the rant I had about my 'family sized' focus when I realised that the car seat from my Jane pram wouldnt fit in it! It would apper that Ford (being known for their family cars) don't seem to understand that sometimes, Families come with babies........ and babies come with car seats (not literally from birth obviously, as that would be a bit painful lol).

We got round it with a Graco Logico S car seat and base. Ford (in their infinite wisdom) don't do isofix in their cars either, but the Graco base fits via the seat belt and it really is sooooooooo easy! It fits perfectly!

The only problem we have now is that I have to keep the jane car seat and pram in the boot because baby has to be in car seat when in pram......... I'm desperately looking out for a praam thats compatible with the Graco car seat so as I don't have to transport everything with me!!!!

Stupid Ford!!!!

Think so hun, then you clip the seat on and off like you would an isofix base?

yeah i was gonna suggest getting the base. whilst its another £80-100 its SOOOO much easier than belting the seat in every journey

what a fantastic site

U can use seatbelts to fit the easyfix base too, I bought one and thank god I have after reading this thread, as we have just bought a ford focus and I stupidly still havent tried our carseat in it.. but hopefully will be fine as we got the base xx

apparently an '03 ford focus does have ISOfix according to the maxi cosi site :S

Hmmmmm, mine doesn't! I've even just been out and checked incase I had baby brain and had totally imagined it! There's definately no isofix in it! Maybe its just certain models - although that seems like an odd thing to do!

We had the same with my husbands car, we bought a seat belt extender which worked great did the trick and not at a huge expense.

A baby shop advised this would be perfectly safe to do so x
