Maxi cosi car seat doesn't fit in our Ford focus!

apparently an '03 ford focus does have ISOfix according to the maxi cosi site :S

Hmmmmm, mine doesn't! I've even just been out and checked incase I had baby brain and had totally imagined it! There's definately no isofix in it! Maybe its just certain models - although that seems like an odd thing to do!

thats odd! your focus has eaten its Isofix adaptors haha :dohh:

we have a ford focus 04 plate and have the maxi cosi car seat too. we have the easybase 2 cause the car doesnt have isofix and it fits perfect. definetly look at getting one. im really pleased with mine.

Thank heavens for google......... I was beginning to thing my Ford hating was just me being irrational. I just found this link

Apparently, the ISOFIX is an optional extra when you order the car. You don't have to pay anything to get it fitted from new, but you have to ask for it to be fitted - otherwise it isn't!

Stupid Ford!

well that's a bit shit is it not! you'd think they'd put an Isofix in as standard

ahh that looks like an option - from what I can see you put the seatbelts around the base then and just fit the seat onto the base?

That's how our Graco one fits in. The seatbelt kind of goes across the top and through the sides of the base (I think, DH is the expert!)

yeah for the maxi cosi base you slide the seatbelt through and you lock it in

If your car doesn't have Isofix but can accept it you can buy the bars from your local dealer normally. We went directly to the local Audi dealer and got them ordered in. It can cost to have them fitted but if you have a practical husband like mine then he can fit them (or you can obviously!). We wanted Isofix but ours didn't have the bars fitted, they cost about £90 to buy.

Then I got the Familyfix base (can be used with next car seat up) from Amazon and the Cabriofix from Halfords.

awww fantastic, thanks for your replies everyone!!

We are really pleased that we can get the easybase as we always wanted to get the isofix and couldn't cos of our car (our car is also too old to be converted to isofix as above) - didn't realise that the easybase existed - completely missed it!! Haha! So , we are going to order that now! I still find it annoying that the seatbelts are the way they are, but at least we have now found a solution and I don't have to resort to walking everywhere once my son is here! (Although I could probably do with having to - to get the weight off :haha:)

Thanks again everyone! xx

I'd look at getting the base. We are thinking of getting one for our car as although the seat fits with the seat belt it looks so much easier. I have a new car that has isofix but we will be using DH's car mainly as it is bigger. He doesn't have isofix in his though.

When I got my car last summer I was told that isofix is fitted as standard in new cars now. Up until a couple of years ago it was an optional extra. We are going to find out if we can get isofix fitted into DH's car but if not then we'll get the base to go with the maxi cosi.

ive got a focus and went for silver cross car seat, as they are known to have shorter seat belts and silver cross doesnt come with a base unit, you have to put the belt round first before clicking it in to the plug iukwim?

Interesting thread! We have a V reg Renault which doesn't have Isofix either. Does anyone know if the non-Isofix Easybases are only compatible with Maxi-Cosi carseats or with other brands too? We're thinking of getting a Britax travel system.

if you buy the isofix base hun it will fit in your car as well as your OHs because you can use a seatbelt on the isofix one as well

Thanks Suzi. The Britax base is Isofix though. Their website indicates that not of their seats for young babies are compatible with our car so I guess that also means not even with seat belts.

no they do a seatbelt routed base as well hun x

This is weird hun as our Maxi Cosi fits in both our folks Focuses (we checked for when they have Missy).

We have the Isofix base in both our Scoobs and they are awesome so can highly recommend one if it's your only choice.

Good luck!

xxx

I haven't tried it in my Fiesta yet! Tried to fix it in hubby's Civic and we got into a muddle :S I'm thinking about getting the base but it's unnecessarily expensive IMO! x

Phew, glad to hear that there is a way around it as we have a focus!! xxx

hey hun i havent read this whole thread so sorry if someone has already said this but take it to your local Ford garage n ask them to fit a fiesta seat belt in both back seats, its only a real so its not much hard work for them! xxx

Hey Pops - are they newer than '05? Apparently in 2005 they put in longer seatbelts I think, or at least the isofix points are in anyway, can't remember which, but they are no good for older ones like mine as we don't have isofix points or long enough seatbelts.

But I have ordered the easybase 2 thing now. It's coming in two weeks so really hope he holds out for then. Although my FIL has ordered us a seatbelt extension (he works in auto spares place) so at least if I do go in before then we can make do with the extension.

Babydance, we were going to look into that, but as we found out about the easybase thing today we are more happier with that as it means we get a correct fit every time now instead of just relying on putting the seatbelt on correctly every time!

So glad I started this thread now as I had no idea about the easy base! :) xx
