I was just reading on another website that 32oz/day is the maximum amount of formula a baby should get.

Is this right?

For a few weeks before Christmas, Adam started taking 8oz 4x a day. Then he got diarrhoea and his appetite went out of the window, he was v fussy and it was a struggle to get him to have half that for a week or so.

Since he's been better his appetite has returned with a vengeance and he's been having 5x 7-8oz/day. Is this too much, or could it just be his body getting back on track after his bout with the shits? Despite the runs he has still maintained his 6oz/week weight gain. (He's not a huge boy, just over 16lb at almost 5 months.)

He is on Aptamil 1st. Does he need the hungrier baby one? Or is he ok for the next few weeks having what he likes, even if it is more than 32oz? I want to start BLW from 24-26 weeks if we can.

Oh, and he is waking earlier, we've definitely noticed that.

32oz is the maximum? Wow Evie sometimes has around 34-36oz if she's having a particularly hungry day!
Her average tho is around 30oz on a daily basis, spread out over 7 5oz bottles, altho she's started draining those so I think we're gonna have to up it to 6oz!!

My LO's max is 24 oz per day (4oz 5-6 bottles). Should I try to give him more? I'm afraid to over feed him, but from what I read, I think my LO is not really taking enough.

Every baby is different.

Earl's apetite changes daily but his average since about 6 weeks has been 36oz a day. He had a bit of a spurt and went up to 7x7oz bottles but he has dropped back to 7x6oz bottles a day. He has already had 5 of these today (2.30, 6.30, 9am, 11.30 and 2) and taken 28oz. I fully expect him to take at least 10 more oz today.....today is a hungry day. If he's more sleepy he wont take as much and sometimes he will take anything up to 8oz at bedtime.

As far as I'm aware, there isn't a maximum that any baby 'should' take. The guidelines are always really rough so you need to just go by what your LO asks for. As long as they're gaining weight and are happy then you know best.

No, 32oz is not the maximum amount! there would a lot of very hungry and miserable babies out there if that were the case. At 4 months my LO easily drank 45oz a day.

My LO is drinking 30oz's a day at the minute but were about to up him to 6oz feeds ( 4 hourly ) So he'll be over that amount.

Never heard of a maximum number of oz's you should give them. I know alot of babies that drink more than 32 in a day.

My Lucy generally has 5 5-6oz bottles over a 24 hour period, although she sometimes wakes in the night for 2 feeds instead of just one! I got told off by the HV as she's apparantly put on too much weight. You try not feeding her when she's hungry!!! As far as I'm aware there's not a max, but just read this...

I wouldnt worry hun, he'll take what he needs and if you try and feed him more when he doesnt really want it or need it, he'll just throw it back up. Everyone including babies have different appetites, some are just hungrier than others.

Evie does eat a fair amount but her weight gain is normal so far. She was 7lb 2 at birth and is now 11lb 7 which puts her just above the 50th percentile, but she's really starting to get some good rolls of fat on her lol!
