Hi all, I have been absolutely dying for a mcdonalds strawberry milkshake for like 2 weeks now, so far i have managed to resist but its getting really painful! i'm sure i have read a while ago that you are not supposed to have them, anyone know for definite? I know Mr whippys are out so i'm guessing its a similar sort of thing xxx

when i was pregnant i want told about them, so i had one occasionally and it didnt hurt xx

I haven't had any McDonalds milkshakes but i had a TGI's one the otherday. I didn't even occur to me that it might be a bad thing. Apart from the fattening thing  The way i saw it, it was extra calcium for LO

I was addicted to strawberry thick shakes while pregnant. Never heard you weren't allowed them.

As long as they used pasteurized milk products it's fine. I can't tell you how much soft serve ice cream I had from Dairy Queen and Wendy's throughout my pregnancy....it was a lot

Hi :hi: I used to work for McDonalds for almost 9 years and can tell you that all (Can't guarantee all do it though) restaurants are required to clean their shake/ice cream machines once a week and this is a full on take the machine apart and sterilise each and every part job and is very thorough and usually done at night after the store is closed which is why you wont normally see it being done!! :D Also each store is subject to random Food Safety tests in which samples of the shakes and sundaes are taken away for testing.
The milkshake mix and sundae mix are two separate mixes, not the same thing, i.e. milkshakes are not made from the same stuff as mcfurries!! :happydance: It is as far as i'm aware pasteurised milk that is used but I couldn't find anything to confirm that but for those concerned about their McD's cravings heres their ingredients list: https://www.mcdonalds.co.uk/resources/img/sections/eatsmart/Nutrition.pdf

I'm not saying that I would without a doubt be recommending the safe drinking their shakes, but personally I will indulge on the rare occasion I get a craving but it will be at the restaurant that I worked as I know their food safety record!!

Hope that helps.....I did ramble a bit there though!!!

The reason that there are concerns about the Mr Whippy style ice creams, McDonald's etc is the risk of listeria. I looked for ages and found info similar to the above on their site i.e. the machines are cleaned either daily or weekly which hopefully is the case. I can't stand the shakes (usually love them) as they're too sweet at the mo' but their ice cream is one of the few things I can stomach so I've had a couple. Really horrible when it comes back up but nice on the way down.

Aww thankyou ladies, what a lot of effort you have put into some of these posts! well i think i can conclude that theres no reason to suggest that they are not allowed, I will be off through the drive through first thing in the morning :) gutted i havent had one before now, it really was painful not having one today, but boy will i enjoy them from now on! wonder how many other people have had triggered a maccie milkshake craving from these posts ;) xxxx

 I read this post yesterday afternoon and by last night 10 pm I was dying for one too!!

So off I popped to Mcdonalds for a LARGE STRAWBERRY SHAKE!!

OMG I enjoyed it!

Thanks Sarah for starting the 'McDonalds Milkshake trend!'

I used to make milkshake (when I worked at the little chef) by blending up the strawberry nesquick stuff with milk and an icecream for extra thickness. i thought they tasted nice than the McD's so I have been making my own :D

We have a kenwood smoothy maker at home and used to use it to make chocolate milkshakes with loads of icecream in the summers. Trouble was they were so yummy that we were consuming a ton of icecream everyweek. Niether one of us is what you'd call thin to start with  so we packed the smoothy maker away. I have a feeling it might make another outing soon. This time i can say "That baby needs the calcium"

well for those of you suffering ms, I actually found McD milkshakes really helped, especially when you cant face eating!!! worked for me, now my excuse is that the baby likes them!

I had some with my wee boy and have had 1 so far this preg. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I did know it was about the nossels but my doc says its ok

Great info from everyone here! Must go get myself a nice banana thickshake! :-)
