Ryan is sleeping in his travel cot at the moment which just has the basic mattress in the bottom. I was thinking about getting a memory foam mattress topper to make it a bit more comfy. Is this o.k? I can't help but think it might be a bit dangerous, (suffocation risk) am I being over cautious?

I think it's advised not use memory foam as they can overheat. I think you can buy thicker travel cot mattresses though.

Yeah you can buy proper mattresses cheap in Argos!

Do not put a memory foam topper or any sort of topper on top! There was recently a case in NZ where a ten month old died from exactly that. Well meaning grandma put an extra bit of foam on top of portacot mattress to make it more comfy and the baby rolled over, got stuck between the side and the topper and suffocated. Absolutely horrible. Don't do it! Your baby doesn't need anything except the basic mattress it came with that has been manufactured to fit the cot.

What about proper travel cot mattresses? I'm worried now, she sleeps in a travel cot with a travel mattress at my OHs parents and we were just about to buy a travel cot mattress for her travel cot at my mum and dads? The one I mean is an official travel cot mattress which fits properly.

How sad:cry:

Maybe I'll just stick with the mattress provided, thank you!:flower:

I think if the cot is a standard size and you can find a mattress the same size to replace it then it shouldn't be a risk. I wouldn't use a topper.
