My general dr. diagnosed me with PCOS and put me on 1000mg of metformin a day. It just doesn't seem like enough to me. Everything I look at online leans toward 1500 mg a day. What dose do you take??

I take 3 x 500mg per day. One of the girls in the femara friends group, her dosage is 2500mg. My neighbour is also taking 1000mg.

I'm taking 1500 mg a day, but I started out on only 500 and gradually increased. It took a while for my body to get used to it and I felt sick for quite a while. Maybe they just want to take it slow?

Cool! Your icon is my icon with some finesse!! :)

What effect has your 1500 had on you? I"ve been taking 1000mg a day since October. So far my cycles don't seem much better.

I wish that were the case, but I'm on my 3rd bottle of 1000mg and I called her to up it and she said no. I"m going to go to an ob/gyn in February and see what else can be done. Is metformin the ONLY answer to PCOS? I seem to ovulate every month so I don't understand why I"m not pregnant (even if I have PCOS).

I take 1500mg, as 500mg trice daily.

Afaik metformin helps regulate the hormones which helps the PCOS but obviously does not cure it. Other than clomid to make women ov, i am not sure there is another treatment, hopefully i am wrong.

Heya,

how do you know you ovulate every month? You can still get your period every month and not O. Happens to me all the time...

I noticed that too about our icon. I was looking for a lotus flower because I have heard that it symbolizes fertility and i found this photo.

Metformin gives me lots of bathroom trips. :nope: I've been so bad with it since the holidays started ... But with all the holiday festivities, I couldn't risk having to RUN to the bathroom. I need to get back at it.

I'm not 100 percent I do. I have done my basal temp. charting for 3 months and those 3 months showed/detected ovulation on fertility friend. I get the positive opks and have a lot of pain one day mid-cycle. So I would say I do, but not 100 percent pos.

Well that is a good sign. I haven't started charting yet. I am thinking about starting to next cycle. It all seems so confusing though... do you have a good website to learn?

fertilityfriend.com has all kind of little tutorials about it. If you have any questions I would love to help.

It took me Two years to get pregnanct twice which both resulted in a MS. My doctor prescribed the met at 1000 mg a day because he felt my periods were too far apart (40 days) and told me to come back in three months. Using the Met and a VERY low carb/no sugar diet (That is supposedly the only diet that helps PCOS) I was pregnant before the follow up and so far everything sees to be going well. I really think the Low Carbing was the oomph I needed.

Hey hun! My Doctor wanted me to take 1500mg, but once i went past 1000mg i became extremely ill. So I'm sticking to 1000mg.
:dust: to you!
