I posted yesterday about how my hospitals labour and delivery department is closing June - September. They're having a few deliveries on one of the other wards, and other women will get sent to other hospitals. With our history, we need to be where my consultant, our neonatal specialist and where the high level nicu is. Rung my mw this morning, and she's not saying much but to talk to my consultant at my appointment next Thursday. My hospital have a policy that if you've lost a baby, they will induce from 37 weeks if that's what you want. So far, I've been strongly against induction or repeat c section as I would like to try for as natural a birth as possible. If they induce at 37 weeks though, I'll definitely be able to give birth at my hospital. So just got to wait for my appointment next week at 36+1, to find out if they'll be able to induce me and the risks involved. Completely terrified but excited!! x

Glad to hear they will *hopefully* be doing something for you hun :) x

what happens if you decide against induction (it sounds like all indications are baby is doing well, no?) - do you have to go to another hospital? Is it not as good/too far away etc? I guess I feel if nothing is amiss, the longer they are in there the better, no? Never heard of an entire hospital closing, what sort of nonsense is that anyway?

You need to read her post from yesterday to understand properly!
Op has previously lost a baby and so needs her consultant and the nicu to be available at the birth of this baby.
Its not the whole hospital closing its just the maternity services so if she was to go to term or over then she would prob have to go to another hospital to deliver. The 2 alternatives are a couple of hours away and neither she or her hubs drive. That on its own i would imagine wouldnt be too much of a problem but its the fact that her consultant that knows her case and history etc is at her original hospital that is the worry.
(op correct me if any of that is wrong!)
Xx

Glad to hear that you'll at least have the option of delivering at your hospital! I know the induction isn't really what you want, but I know you're much more concerned about holding your sweet baby than what type of birth you have. :flower:

As mspotter said, my son died shortly after birth last year and we still don't have a definitive cause. The other two hospitals don't have nicu's, and if this baby has the same condition as Joshua, which is a 50% chance, she wouldn't survive the transfer. We also need Joshua's neonatal specialist present at the birth. After having a 32 weeker, ideally I'd like this baby to stay in as long as possible, I know first hand the risks of having a Orem baby, but its weighing up against the possibility of having to give birth elsewhere. Labour and delivery ward is closing June - September for a £200,000 refurbishment. The ward that women will have to deliver on, doesn't have as many rooms, so there's a much higher chance of them closing and having to deliver elsewhere. Not driving isn't the main concern, but is an issue, main concern is my consultant, the nicu and our neonatal specialist that cared for Joshua. There's a possibility he died from a never seen before genetic disorder, so there's a few leading specialists that want to check over this baby. However much I want a natural vbac, I'll do whatever they suggest if it gets her here safely, my oh keeps joking that if they told me to labour on one leg on a trampoline whilst juggling, I'd do it if it guaranteed her health!! 37 weeks is considered term, and at the moment she's looking to be a good size, so iugr isn't a concern this time (touch wood). They'd previously offered a c section at 38 weeks, but if you've lost a baby through stillbirth or neonatal death, they offer induction from 37 weeks to lower the potential of any risks x

Best of luck!!! I hope your baby girl is healthy as can be. What a trying time. Wish they could just reserve a spot for you or something. I guess renovations are nice and all but sending women to hospitals without an nicu to deliver is just so unfortunate.

id go for the induction hon, best of luck xxxxxxxxxxxxx
hope everything turns out great for u xxxxxxxxxxxx

Good luck with baby :) Which hospital? as I am under a Norfolk hospital too! I am high risk and prone to stupidly fast labour's and this may effect my delivery etc! x

Lexi, if you should have to go elsewhere to deliver i'm at the QE in kings lynn (one of your alternatives i think!) and was with ds too.
The delivery suite staff were fab and i had no issues with the hospital at all.
Mine have both been low risk preg so i have no idea about the special care unit but i have heard good reports about them too!
Hope everything goes to plan for you tho and you get to deliver at the N&N
xx

Becca, its the norfolk and Norwich. Kings lynn and gorleston are the two other options. It's not about the staff, its that the specialists we need wouldn't be there. I think both jph and qe both have special care baby units, but not high level nicu's. with the serious problems Joshua had, a scbu wouldn't have the equipment that this baby might potentially need. I know that equipment only gave us 13 hours with Joshua, but its 13 hours more than it would of been otherwise. Just got to wait till next Thursday to get an answer. Got a growth scan, then my routine consultant appointment, so hopefully, as long as she is still looking to be a healthy size, I'd be induced the week after. And there I was convincing myself I'd go the 1 week overdue and need a c section!! x

I hope your able to have the induction, but also as natural a labour as possible, and wont be needing a repeat section. :hugs:

I think you should go for the induction. As you say it's so important that the team of medical staff who know you, your baby girl and know about Joshua are present. It seems like doing anything to deliver at your chosen hospital should be top option.

Good luck for your appointment & growth scan - hope she continues to get chunky!!

my bro and Sil have genes that mean each bub they have has 50-50 chance of ananchephely. they have 4 healthy kids and one angel, . xxxx

Thank you lilesmom, sad to hear about your brothers angel. We're staying as positive as we can. A 50% chance of her bit coming home, also means a 50% chance that she will make it home x

il say prayers for u gettin the coming home option xxxxxx hugs hon xxxxxxxxx

I'd definitely go for the induction to guarantee the medical professionals your little girl may need :hugs: Good luck for the growth scan, fantastic that IUGR doesn't seem to be an issue this time.
