Hi ladies! I had a question. My SIL has a newborn and noticed there was a little blood coming with his bowel movement. It was only a couple drops but she called her pediatrician and said that it was either constipation or a milk allergy. My SIL says the stool is getting to be more play-do like (harder), so I think it is constipation but the doc changed her to formula to soy.

Is this common for a milk allergy??? Is there anyway to add more water to the formula to give more hydration, maybe that would help keep the stools more soft or a stool softener?

I am still a couple months out from my baby so I don't know anything but I want to help her!

If they're allergic to milk, then they are most likely allergic to soy. I've also heard that soy formulas cause constipation, so I think it's weird that her pediatrician suggested that.

But she can always use a powdered baby probiotic (of course check with the doctor first) to help things move along better.

I would think with blood in the stool, that's usually a red flag for an allergy, so I'd say switch to something hypoallergienic.

Just my two cents!

I hope her LO get better! And I'm not a doctor, so maybe the Soy will help!
