I've had it for a few months now, bled for ages but it settled down about 4/5months ago and I was only spotting during my periods (really lightly with no cramps)... Now all of a sudden this month I'm bleeding heavily again, like a normal period? Is it normal for this to happen?

It can be.... the mirena coil can cause irregular bleeding. Esp if it would have been you time of the month.
If you're worried, get your GP to check the coil

I had the Mirena in for 3 years, and I did sometimes get bleeding or breakthrough bleeding but never bled heavily. I would get it checked out if it lasts longer than a normal period.
