Misgender sono

ok hope im not going to worry anyone but i came across this conversation on another site which i found really interesting so thoug i would share -

Does anyone have pictures that show three lines on a boy u/s?

I dont have a picture to show you but three lines is what I saw on my 20 week scan with the middle one slightly bigger than the others and I let myself get excited that it was a girl but they told me boy. BEcause of this I had doubts. However at 23 weeks scan it was soooo obviously a little boy.

Yes, a boy can image with 3 lines if the tech/doctor is not careful. I've seen an example or two of it online along with the "gender gone wrong" stories. Here's what Charliecats has to say about it in her FAQ at the top of the forum:

Can you get 3 Lines on a Boy?

Absolutely. If the tech takes the picture from too far back (ie behind the scrotum, near the bum), you can get 3 lines. Tricky. The male bits are lying out in front of these lines. Especially if he has an erection (yes, that does happen).

some people had put up pics with the 3 lines showing and sayin they def had a boy -

But im thinking it must be very rare and must also depend of position of baby.
Im sure it will be a girl tho they rarely get these things wrong - congrats -

I hate hearing things like this. At my 20 week the sonographer was pretty confident that it was a girl, but she was sure to tell my OH that it is definitely not 100% until the baby comes out. So, now my OH walks around with a smidgen of hope that its a boy. Lol.

Congrats on your baby girl!

Hi! I had my second sono today and i am so frustrated. I had my sono 1st time at 15 weeks and was told by a sonographer that I was having a boy 100% (eventhough i asked her if it was a little too early to say but she reassured me that if it is there you can see it). Today at 22 weeks and 5 days, I had my secong sono and the same tech told me i was having a 100% girl and was sooooooooooooooo surprised she told me otherwise. I am so angry and frustrated.

Ok. I am almost over it. I guess I am going to have 3 girls and be done with it.

LOL. Returned almost all of my blue stuff. Hello ebay for the rest...

My friend had 3 US saying she was having a girl. BUT she had a little man with biggest little man parts i have ever seen.

We paid for a babybond scan and she said girl at 20 weeks. I really hope she was right as a boy is just going to get a complex in my bright pink nursery :)

I had a scan at 24 weeks at babybond and they said girl. I had a NHS scan at 28 weeks and they also said girl. I do wonder if there is still a chance that it is wrong though, i have bought a lot of girls clothes!

Why exactly are you angry?

It does say almost everywhere that using a scan to tell the sex is not always accurate.

Oh no! I got told at my 20 week scan I was having a girl (99% sure ofcos) and its gonna be one very confused little boy if the sono was wrong cos 1)I got a load of pink girly stuff and 2) a pink flowery nursery
Oh well only 116 days left and then there will be doubt one way or the other:rofl:

@ixj120 xongrats on your baby girl:D Im actually surprised that so many ladies on here have been told at 16 weeks as over here they flat out refuse to tell you any sooner than 20 weeks and they wont even tell you at a private scan neither..at least you were able to return most of the stuff..what a shock tho and for the sono to tell you with a straight face lol

i'll be very surprised if my litte blue bump turns into a pink one... when the sonographer did the toilet shot me nd my mum both shouted out 'its a little boy' when we saw his little boy bits... then when the sonographer did a side view his little willy was stuck straight up in the air!!!
everyone had a giggle nd the sonographer said well it looks like ur havin a boy then... obv followed by... '99% sure ofcourse ;)'.
still if it is a girl... she's gonna be called finnlay nd wearin blue for atleast the first 3 months of her life :p

Our NHS trust refuses to give gender, for this reason. They know they can't be 100% and apart from the fear of being sued, they are also aware of some cultural issues over firstborn girls etc.

We had a private gender scan and they were very clear that no matter how certain they thought they were, they would never give a 100% guarantee.

I had one at 17 weeks and was told for sure boy then had one at 20 weeks told girl 21 weeks told girl and 24 weeks said maybe boy. It's ridiculous we are just staying team yellow!

15wk is too early

well look at it this way, got 50/50 now!

id say wait till the birth to find out.

I was angry b/c of the reaction my docs sono tech had. She asked me if I wanted to know baby's gender to which I replied that she told me last time. So, 5 min later she told me I was having a baby girl.
-Girl?????Really??? Last time you told me it was a baby boy.
- Really??? Did I write it in your chart?
-Yes you have.
-Well. It was too early to determine. So you better have saved your receipts because I dont see any boy there. It is a girl. A 100% a girl.

So I thought a little courtesy would have been expected. Apparently, she didn't think so.

I know a couple of people that have been told one sex at the 20 week scan and have then found out its actually the other at birth.

With out first the 20 week scan said boy and some further growth scans by doctors also said boy. We only bought one blue thing just incase.

This time at the 20 week scan things were unclear as baby didnt want to show. The sonographer thought she had seen some winky but stressed that she was really unsure and even at that stage the sex organs can still be swollen. I dont think they can ever be 100% until baby is born.

Ah right.

Each time I was told that it looked like a ........ but may still decide to be a ...... just before birth. It was alwasy made very clear to me that it was basically just a guess, a good guess, but a guess none the less. I asked at 20+week scans though.

We were told ' congratulations you have a baby girl'

My scan was at 20+3 weeks and during the scan both DH and i seen between the legs a few times and it was flat, not a lump or bulge in sight lol.

The sonographer said he seen three white lines, no boy bits in sight and that the umbical cord way right out of the way.

Im pretty confident its a girl.

He said he wouldnt make a comment on sex unless he got a clear view and was very sure x

I thought i was having a girl. Had gender scan at 16 wks = girl then one at 20 wks=girl and 23 wks = girl so if this LO turns out to be a boy i think i'll drop dead from the shock lol.
