I got a second hand moses basket with rocking stand as a little bargain but obviously need to get a new mattress for it.

The mattress that came with it still had its wrapper but was opened so no way of know if it's been used. Anyway the wrapper says it's a mothercare mattress costing £9.99.

when I went into mothercare they showed me two mattresses... one just like the one I have which has a plastic, wipe clean coating... and another one that cost 3 times the price and was more of a foam/breathable mattress.

My mum is pushing me to spend more money and get the breathable one as she thinks this is "less risky"?? but i really don't think that either choice is "risky"

Do you think it makes much difference? Baby is likely to be sleeping in it for a couple of months before I move him/her to the cot in the nursery.

Can anyone give any advice on best mattress to get?

thank you

xx

We have borrowed a friends moses basket. The mattress they had in there was a plastic coated one. We went to buy another one, and went to John Lewis. They said they don't sell plastic coated mattresses as separate mattresses but the ones that come with the baskets are plastic covered. I believe the plastic covered ones are recommended by some as then they don't absorb any leaks and are wipeable etc.

If you did want a breathable one though, then John Lewis do them from about £10

I got mine from Kiddiecare.com and it cost £12 and its the breathable kind xxx

We got a bargain moses basket too and got a new mattress for it, the waterproof one from Mothercare as that's the only one we could find. As far as I'm concerned we won't be using it loads anyhow as planning on having baby in a crib, moses basket may only get used occasionally.
