Can any of you ladies provide any suggestions / recommendations on moses baskets? I'm not sure what I should really be looking out for or how much to spend. John Lewis seems to have a range from about £50-£125. Are there are particular features or considerations to be aware of?

Thanks :flower:

We went with a natural maize basket from babies r us with rocking stand with callum, the rocking stand was very useful. Think it cost around £40. This time we've got a similar one (borrowing from my brothers baby who will of outgrown it by then) xx

I borrowed my sisters the first time round it was, love my bear range from toys r us. This time we got a really good deal on mamas and papas zeddy and parsnip range, just got the normal stand as a 4 year old with a rocking one doesn't mix. Lol! X

Thanks ladies. The range out there is a bit overwhelming. Imagine what I'll be like when I start looking at prams...!

We just got ours last weekend! It was our first baby purchase! The basket itself was the loved so much range in mothercare (off the top of my head i think it cost around £60) and we got a white rocking stand from John Lewis (£35) because it seemed a little sturdier than some of the other rocking ones.

we are not going to bothew, we are getting a gliding crib. OH is 6''4/5 so do not imagine baby will be in it for long, even though I am only 5''5

My ds hated his Moses basket. It was from John Lewis and we had the rocking stand as well. I always felt that it dipped in the middle and wasn't providing a lot of support for him so we ended up having it on the floor which I didn't like at all.
Also my ds outgrew it by 11 weeks (was totally cramped by this point!) and we couldn't fit the cot in our room so had to put him in his own room that early which I didn't like.
This time we have gone for a rocking crib as they are a similar price (got mine in mothercare sale for under £50) and will last longer than Moses basket too.
If you still want a Moses basket then I would say go for a hard wicker one so the base is more supportive for your LO.
Hope that helps :)

Haha we didn't bother last time, 9pm on the second might sent hubby out to find one, baby was so little anything else seemed too big for him and not cosy (7lb 5 so average)

Ours was bought in a rush and the mattress seemed to be just a bit of plastic covered foam, yuck so will plan ahead and get a good quality mattress this time.

We also didn't have a stand and i will this time, we always had baby on the couch in his basket but with a 3 year old Im not doing that this time!

All of that said, don't pay too much, go for comfort and ease of washing (and plenty of spare brushed cotton sheets) over looks as sick and poo will be your new buddies :) it will only last 3 months at most x

I would seriously recommend renting a Bednest co-sleeper (£99) - you get a new mattress etc and hire it for 6 months. It attaches to your matress and you adjust the height so it's level!

We bought one with DS and it made our lives so much easier! My SIL used it for my nephew, and now I have it back for DS2! Can't wait to get it out again!

I bought a lollipop loan moses basket from mamas and papas with my son...it did the job, i think we got it in the sale for £60. I think as long as if you buy it from a reputable retailer you will be fine :) xx
