On Monday I suffered a seizure and was in the emergency room for about 6 or 7 hours. The doctor specifically called it an absence seizure and on March 6th I'm getting a mri done to check if there's any damage to my brain. I have to be at the hospital for 6:30 am. Has anyone here had a mri done? I'm a bit nervous to have it done.

Oh wow, hope you're okay! :hugs:

I had one as a teen for my migraines, and don't remember much about it. Just that I had to take off all my jewelry, and it was painless/simple (I basically daydreamed while in the machine). I think the thing that freaked me out the most was they wanted it "with contrast", which meant an injection. I refused the injection and they just did it without.

Theres nothing to worry about at all. You just lie there with ear defender/headphones on while the machine does it's job. No pain at all. It was noisy though, even with the defenders on!

Thanks for the replies. The woman never mentioned an injection when she called me yesterday. Now I'm scheduled to get an EEG done April 2nd and have to abstain from caffeine not to mention stay up all night. That's going to be fun. :haha:

Sometimes they inject a dye into you to get a clearer image.

The MRI itself is nothing just lay there very still. Youll be able to talk to hear the radiographer and have headphones/ear defenders on. Its just noisy, but thats about the worst of it. I have one every 18ish months, and sometimes fall asleep lol

Yep like the other have said you just have to lie still and its noisy but dosnt hurt at all. good luck hun xxx

Where would it be injected if I have it done?

You'd have a cannula inserted into the back of the hand or in the crease of your elbow. It's just a flexible needle that stays in your arm, with a cap on the end. It just feels like a normal blood test. The worst part is when the they pull the plaster off that holds it in place!

I think I had one of those in my right arm when I was in the hospital last week. It looked like a little funnel and was taped to my arm. The doctor took it out right before I left.
