Those of you who have had big birthweight babies (from about 9 pounds upwards) - did you find that your baby maintained a high weight range as they grew over their first year?

Tristan was nearly 10 pounds when he was born (9 lbs 12 oz) and on the 98th percentile. Around 6 weeks he went down to the 75th percentile and the around 19 weeks he was at the 65th percentile. Now at 23 weeks he is around the 55 - 60th percentile and weighs about 17 and a quarter pounds. He is on the 80th percentile for height. His Daddy is tall and slim.

He did have a bad cold recently and threw up a lot of his feeds for a week and I am wondering if this contributed to his weight gain slowing down a bit.

What about you?

...oh and I am exclusively breastfeeding, if that makes a difference. We have just started introducing solids last week.

Hebe was 8lb 11 so not huge and so far she's stuck to the 91st line BUT I havent had her weighed for 3 weeks so I'll be interested to see what she weighs tomorrow. I'll let you know ;)

charlie was 8lb 10.5 so not far off 9lb he was on the 75th line now hes below the 50th and is a skinny little rake! and he eats LOADS hes just very active! plus me and OH are both skinny (well i was Pre-charlie)!

I didnt have one, but OH was 10lb 2 at birth and lost loads, he's now very tall!

Chloe is the other way- was born on 25th and now fluctuates between 91st and 95th!

Thanks girls - it is interesting to see that people have had varied experience. It is easy to get obsessed with the 'centiles!

katie was the same weight and now she's just under the 50th!! she stayed high weight til about 11/12 weeks then it dropped off. she's really long and skinny! i've not had her weighed for a while, but she's on 3 meals a day and still stayin on a lower weight xx

I found after about 3 or 4 months she did seem to drop percentiles..my first daughter was 10lbs 8 ozs at birth. She was still a "big" baby and even now she is tall! She is now 3 and a half and as tall as most 4 and a bit year olds!

I wasn't to phased that she still had a bit of chub, she only really slimmed down when she started walking and running around but even then I dont have to worry to much about her when she gets sick..unlike her sister who was 7lbs 9ozs! still had the same size head though :dohh:

Every time I get her weighed and I comment 'Oh she's nice and average - sticking to the line' the HV will go OTT to remind me that you shouldnt take too much notice of the centiles - I think they must get a few obsessives!! Step away from the red book Poppy!!

Hannah was 8 pounds 10 ounces and has always remained on the high end for length but is about average for weight....she's a skinny little thing

Ally was 8lbs 10oz (I think that's 75th percentile) and he went up to 98th for a while then stayed between 91st and 75th for ages and is now back to the 75th. The boomerangy shape is apparently really common. I sometimes think that the birthweight percentile and their final percentile line don't always correlate. Like in the womb, some babies don't get as much nutrition and stuff as they should (if the placenta isn't working or whatever) so won't put on as much weight, even if the are destined to be big on the outside! I think Ally was probably bigger around my due date (he was born at 40+13) but the midwife said my placenta was really overdone and it was definitely good they induced me when they did!

Basically, what I'm saying (in a long winded way) is I don't think the birth weight percentile and the percentile they end up on matter too much :)

My daughter was 9lb13oz when she was born...and she was always above the high end for weight and length...but when she hit 1.5 she slimmed down loads and shes now in the normal height and weight for her age...(shes now 3.5)

harry was 9lbs born & always stayed on 91st percentile. At 16 weeks he was 17.5 lbs!

Colton remained right around the 91st percentile until just a few weeks ago when I had him weighed, he dropped to the 71st but I think alot of it is that he has relux, and she put him on something for it (he didn't gain any weight the last three months!).
His height has remained in the mid-90's though, and he's now 30.5" tall.
BTW: he was 9lbs 14oz and 21.5" at birth.

Kaya was 9lb 1.5oz and she lost loads of weight even now she's quite petite and only weighs about 25lb. Still there's nothing wrong with her.

Sam wasn't quite as heavy when he was born (8lb 13oz) but he was breastfed too, and he came down to the 50th centile after a few weeks and has stayed there or just below. I was a 9lb baby too and was average size after a few months x

Theo was 10lbs 14oz when he was born, which was over the 100th percentile, but ever since he has maintained weight within the 99th and 98th! His height is also in that one too though so I keep telling myself that he is in proportion and just a big baby.

Ella was 9lb 1oz and she went down from there , she is alittle under the 50% percentile but she is a healthy little bub :) Alot taller for her age though on the 80th percentile there

Well I didn't have a baby over 9lbs, but she was over 8 at 3 weeks early, and I was told she would have been around 11lbs had I gone to my due date, and to this day her weight is in the 100th percentile, she just turned 4 months and is almost 17lbs.

Max was 9lb13oz, He did drop a pound or so in the first few weeks but has since remained above average with his weight gain! Max is now nearly 6 months and weighing in at 20lb! I think if baba is born bigger that is how it carries on!? And as for this myth that your next babies get bigger...pah i bloody hope not!!!!!!!! xxx
