I have taken him to the doctors on quite a few occasions now. My Dr doesnt seem very concerened, he said unless Jack goes limp and is really struggling to breathe then there is no need to panick. He said he most likely has asthma but Jack is too young to be officially diagnosed with it and he said that inhalers etc arent very effective for babies under 2 (Jack is 1) He gave me an inhaler anyway with a facemask, but he is right - it isnt really helping.
The thing is he is coughing most nights and it wakes him up. He used to be such a good sleeper, he'd go from 7:30pm - 6:30am every single night. Now he is waking every few hours.
Has anyone else had this problem with their LO?

Many Thanks

You can give him honey now after a year I think? Honey is a natural cough supressent. I don't know if that helps but maybe give him some before bed?

Scorpio ~ Thanks, I will give that a try when I get home from work.

my sister had this problem with her baby an it was something to do with the heating and the air being dry so she would put a tub of water in the room and it seemed to help :)

Thanks Cars. I think all his problems started at our last house which had serious mould and damp problems. We have moved house now. The new house doesnt have central heating though, only a few gas fires and an electric heater in his room. I dont use it unless it is really cold as he sleeps in a vest, pj's, and a sleeping bag. The air could be dry still so i'll give anything a try.
Does anyone know what a 'cool mist humidifyer' is? would this help do you think?

My son had something similar and a friend suggested a damp hankie with a drop of Eucalyptus oil on it hanging in his room and also to dampen the net curtains in his bedroom sounds weird I know but it really did help!

If he has asthma then maybe he could be given a nebulizer with some drops of ventalin in it to inhale or budicort- ask your doc about that. Does he just cough? My son has whooping cough and it lasts aggges, so I can relate to having a cough for ages. He was treated with what I mentioned above, we also use a cold steam humidifier which really helps with the heavy chest and breathing.

I've found Aidan doesnt cough so much with the window open slightly. I've tried everything but this has helped the most.
