Leah has been diagnosed with an allergy to cows milk - i'm devastated as i have this and feel so bad for passing it on to her  it's not something i would wish on anyone and she has been so poorly lately with bringing up her milk all the time, diarrhoea etc. i have switched to a soya based milk but i am struggling with what food to give her. I should know really as i have been allergic to cows milk for a few years now. i know i can give her fruit and veggies etc, what can i give her for brekkie? up until now i have given her porridge which is milk based, and she cant have fruit all the time!

any advice would be greatly appreciated xxx

Have you tried Goats milk, or possibly almond milk? Is she lactose intolerent? Can you give her lactose free milk? Just suggestions :hugs:

My baby has a cows milk allergy too, she's prescribed nutramigen AA formula as she is also allergic to soya. Ask your doctor to refer you to a paediatric dietician for weaning help (can't you use her formula to make the porridge?) Not got any advice but if you need to chat PM me x

I was allergic to cows milk as a baby and my Mum gave me soya milk instead x

Snap Dylan is the same and on the same milk. He is also allergic to tomatoes and bananas too.

Cow and gate and hipp do a fruity porridge that doesn't contain milk and you mix with babys usual milk, also there's toast with fruit spread and/or dairy free butter x

My lo is lactose intolerant and there are lots and lots of cereals which don't contain milk. Plum organic do a lovely range of free from stuff. Boots have the widest range :)

I've been using baby rice as the porridges I've seen tend to contain milk products. I use breast milk at the moment (I'm still feeding too) but will introduce goats milk soon. I've never used cow's milk for LO as I've had problems with it myself since a child so I'm trying to avoid it for my LO until he's a lot older.

theres porridge that you add your own milk to, thats what SOphie has. She is allergic to cows milk too and is on nutramigen :) the porridge is cow & gate and also organix range is really good :)

My LO is allergic to cow's milk too. She has:

Porridge for breakfast made with neocate formula. Either Hipp Organic banana or one of the fruity Plum makes.

A Hipp organic jar for lunch. There are several 7m+ ones that are milk free, like Chicken with noodles and chicken risotto. Or she has houmous with bread (check it is milk free bread). Then fruit.fruit pot or banana rice pudding jar for dessert.

For tea she has veggies we have or home made veggie mush, or jacket potato and beans, then a fruit pot or fruit again.

You can make desserts with formula, like custard or blancmange, although my LO hates it with the neocate.

I'm a little allergic to milk or lactose intolerant or something (it triggers my eczema) but for some reason I'm fine with goats milk. I've heard some formula milk can be found that's based on goat milk instead of cow. Don't know though.

I've also tried soya and rice milk for my cereal but now I prefer a mix of rice and goat milk.

Hope you find some alternatives. Best of luck!

thank you everyone for your help and advice - is the nutramigen AA formula only available on prescription? she is on the soya baby milk and it has been better but she is still bringing it up sometimes - i'm not sure though if itis from eating some solid food that hasn't agreed with her earlier? From today i am cutting out the milk in her food too to see how she goes.

I am worried about her getting enough calcium though if she won't be having any dairy in her diet - how can i help with that? She is being very fussy with her food at the moment but that is probably cos she doesn't feel well whenever she eats something.

For my breakfast i have cereals with rice milk as i don't use soya milk - could i maybe do her some weetabix or something muched with rice milk? Can she eat adult breakfast cereals yet? i was worried if they had too much salt in.

My bub has milk allergy too and I am pregnant again so have just weaned him onto soy formula.

You could give fruit mixed with soy yogurt (check ingredients though as some still contain milk)

I give my bub porridge and I mix it with hot water and a bit of cinnamon and then I add in some fruit too. I also give him weetbix with hot water and fruit. He loves both! Toast is fine (with some kind of spread like hummus if she has no seasame issues, vegemite/marmite (sorry not sure where in the world you are) or avacado!

You could also use the soy formula to add to cereal that she can have.

She may grow out of it- of course she may still have lactose intolerance later on but the actual allergy part might dissapear.
