Hiya!

Just wanted to share with you all that I went into labour early hours of sunday morning at 37+4 and had my beautiful baby boy who we've called Hayden Christopher on 28th August at 1:04pm weighing 7lb 1oz.

Labour had a few problems as epidural fell out and had to be resited which made the pain even worse and his arm came out the same time as his head which left me with a lovey third degree tear and I heammoraged quite bad, luckily I didn't need a transfusion, just some iron tablets but all sorted now! :) i'll write a detailed birth story later on when I get chance, a bit preoccupied and absolutely sleep deprived at the moment! had about 3 hours altogether since saturday night lol!

I've attached a pic of him for you, he's so gorgeous and I love him soooooooo much!! xx

BIRTH STORY -

I'll try and write it as good as I can - never wrote one before lol!!

Saturday 27th September - around lunchtime I had some really strong tightening in my stomach but i'd been having these for weeks so thought nothing of it and carried on as normal and went out shopping to get measured for some nursing bras. While I was in the m&s Changing rooms I felt some water leak and initially thought i'd leaked a bit of wee or something but I couldn't stop it from coming out although it was only a small amount. Luckily I was wearing a pad at the time! An hour later I started to get backache but i'd been suffering with serious back pains for weeks so I just got on with the rest of the day.

Sunday 28th September - 3:25am, just finished getting up off the loo and I heard a noise that I can only describe as a balloon popping and then water just started gushing out of me and i was like OMG its started!! :) I rang the hospital and they said to go straight in to get checked over. On the way to the hospital I started having contractions and we were timing them at about every 4 - 5 minutes but they were rather mild at this stage - just like a normal period type pain.

By the time I got to the hospital the contractions had already started getting stronger so they hooked me upto the monitor and they were coming every 3 minutes or so now but they started to get really painful and longer lasting. I was feeling the pains mostly in my back at this stage so I was given some co-dydramol to help. The mw did an examination and said she could still see some water but was unable to see my cervix (not sure why as it was definitely there!) she then did my blood pressure and it was really high - 187/94 so she left me hooked upto the monitor for a couple of hours to monitor it.

At around 7am the contractions started getting really bad very quickly so hubby went to get the midwife . She examined me at 7:20am again and said I was 3cm dilated. I was finally given gas and air after hubby went to grab the midwife again - It took the edge off the pain but I really didn't like it as with every contraction I felt like i'd necked a bottle of vodka!!

After a while the contractions were very intense and I wasn't coping very well with the pain so the midwife recommended an epidural. It was quite hard to keep still enough for the anaethetist to be able to insert it as contractions were every 2 minutes and you need to be still for about 20 minutes for it to be set up - it didn't help with feeling paraletic off the gas and air and I was rocking backwards and forwards in a drunken daze!

It took bout 15 mins for epi to kick in and after that contractions just felt like a tiny bit of pressure in my uterus but couldn't feel a thing in my stomach, I even missed some contractions not noticing them! I was still getting very very bad back pains though at this stage. After an hour it took a bad turn and I was in excrutiating pain and feeling the contractions a hundred times worse than before - they discovered that the epidural had fallen out and needed to be re-sited.

After this was done the mw examined me again at about 11:30 ish and I couldn't believe it - she said I was 10cm dilated!!! I'd gone from 3cm to 10cm in just 4 hours!! I wasn't ready to push though as she said the baby's head was still really high so she left me for an hour to give chance for his head to descend low enough to start pushing.

It was quite hard to get to grips with the pushing I wasn't doing it properly first but soon got the hang of it :) - It is like you need to do a big poo (which I know everyone says but it really is true) it's like you've got a big poo stuck in your system that it busrting to come out!! I wasn't allowed any gas and air during the pushing and the 2nd epidural hadn't been in long enough for it to kick in so I knew that I had to make the most of every contraction to get my baby out.

I must admit it is the strangest feeling in the world when the body comes out and he shot out so fast the mw had to literally catch him - it's like you've dropped your cork leg or something! LOL!! The main problem was his arm came out the same time as his head and left me with a third degree tear and I was heamorraging really badly. They had to get a specialist to do the stitches as the mw's were not comfortable dealing with such a nasty tear. All dignity goes out the window when your feet are up on stirrups and people are coming in gawping at your damaged flute!!

Hayden Christopher was born at 1:04pm on 28th August 2011 weighing 7lb 1oz - he is the most amazing gift I could ever wish for and i'd go through all that pain again for him if I had to!! :)
