Our rainbow baby, Claire Violet, arrived at 9:58am on 1/2/2016 weighing 7lbs 12 oz and 21 inches long.

So here's the basic birth story. I started getting contractions on New Years Day at 8am, but after being in labor for about 15hrs and the contractions were not getting any stronger, I knew there was something wrong, so I phoned my midwife and explained myself and she agreed it sounded like something wasn't right, so she had me come in, examined me, and in 15hrs I had only progressed from 2cms to 3cms. She then felt around and found that Claire was still in a bad position: towards the left side of me and partially face up, so she had my lie on my right side with a peanut shaped yoga ball between my legs for 2 hrs, came back, and felt around again and had confirmed that she had turned into the perfect position for birth and was no longer face up. She then sent me home with some Ambien to help me get some sleep. We got home at 11pm, and I was woken up at 1:30am on 1-2 with very strong and regular contractions. I got in the tub, walked about, and noticed them getting stronger and very unbearable, so I phoned the midwife again and was told to come in. I was checked again at 5am and was 6cm dilated and 90% effaced. I was admitted into my birthing center, and at that point I was so exhausted from getting zero sleep and battling contractions for so long I was begging for the epi. No shame! I know I wanted to try for natural, but the pain and pressure was too much for me, and as soon as I got it I felt fantastic, was able to relax and even sleep for almost 2 hrs as I progressed, which gave me the strength to push later. I had even turned to DH at one point and told him "This is the best!"

My midwife checked me again and then broke my waters when I was at 9cms, she said she'd be back in an hr to check me, but after 20 mins I felt this pressure that wouldn't go away, she had descended really fast, and I knew she was right there ready to be pushed out. I had called my midwife over the bed phone and told her I needed her to come in. I managed to hold off pushing for another 5 mins till she walked in and I told her I needed to push. She got the bed ready quick and as soon as she put my legs in the stirrups she could see the top of her head. My midwife put a warm wash washcloth at my perineum and massaged with some water and essential oils really quick to help stretch me naturally as I was pushing, which prevented me from tearing at all, (that's why I love midwives so much!!!) I only ended up with a small bruise. Claire was pushed out in 5 mins, and immediately placed on my stomach. It was such an awesome birth, and I'm so pleased with it. Despite being long as it was and with a rough start, it ended perfectly and I would definitely do it all over again! Even the midwife had commented that it was an amazing birth!

Enjoy some baby pics ladies.
