On Saturday, my baby boy Jude will be 1 year old, 10 months corrected.
Jude was born at 31 weeks due to severe pre eclampsia; I had several seizures shortly before his emergency birth. He was diagnosed shortly after birth with chronic lung disease, came home on oxygen, battled NEC twice, had 2 collapsed lungs, pneumonia, so many hospital admissions iv lost count.... he has been significantly poorly throughout his first year. last week we found out that he also has one of the most severe cases of dysphagia (unsafe swallow) that the Brompton has ever seen and so had an emergency gastrostomy and will now be tube fed for the indefinite future.
Jude's first year has been tough, but he is a gladiator and has fought through many obstacles that most people will never have to encounter. I have probably gone through every emotion under the sun and learnt so much about myself in that time too.
I am so proud of my little dude, he is one of the bravest babies I know.
The future is bright for Jude, he is proof that prems are special and strong- he was a gift and I thank god every day for the bright little button that is my son.
