I am so excited, I got my BFP on Thursday, after 18 months ttc#1. Not exactly sure what we did that made a difference, but in case it helps anyone, I’ll put some details below. I’m 34 and DH is 36, neither of us have children or health issues, we’re both a healthy weight and I’ve never been pregnant. I was ovulating regularly on CD15. We’d both had the standard tests (blood tests and sexual health tests for me, SA for him) and everything was normal. We’d been using condoms prior to TTC so no problems with effects from hormonal contraception. It was mystifying, and was really getting us down. I had seen a consultant at the local NHS fertility clinic and was waiting for date for my HSG dye test. Then – surprise! Best news ever.

What we were doing anyway –
- no caffeine for me, for months before
- both on Pregnacare preconception vitamins for him and her, also cod liver oil, DH on extra vit C and acai
- charting my cycle, after reading TCOYF (very much recommended)
- using OPKs
- cut down on alcohol (I didnt't drink much anyway, maybe 2 or 3 glasses of wine over a weekend, but I stopped drinking in the 2WW), and DH had started to cut down a lot on smoking 4 months ago (I strongly suspect this is what has made the difference, but he won’t accept it!)

What we did new this month –
- used Preseed (pro-fertility lubricant)
- I started taking kelp and Siberian ginseng this month, just thought I’d give them a try as I was always cold, with cold hands and feet and a cold nose, and thought maybe they’d help
- I had no alcohol at all
- I did much less aerobic exercise – just because I’ve been really busy at work and didn’t have time to go to aerobics (which I’d normally do about 3 times a week). Was still doing lots of cycling and a couple of weights classes and yoga classes a week
- I started following the Foresight conception programme this month. It might sound a bit radical but after 18 months I had got to the stage where I would do anything! This meant eating an organic fertility diet, getting a water filter installed, not using a microwave, not using aluminium-based deodorant and a few more things you can find for free on their website. I tried it after some friends who were also TTC for 18 months got pregnant on their first month on the programme and recommended it (they had sperm issues and had been told they’d never get pregnant). I've decided to keep it up throughout the pregnancy just in case
- we had less sex – previously we’d been BDing every day or nearly every day from about CD11 to about CD16. This time DH was away in New York until CD15, my ov day. I thought it would probably be too late but offered to go and pick him up from the airport so he’d be home as quickly as possible just in case! So I collected him, whisked him home, and voila!
- sod’s law, it was the first month after which I wouldn’t get any maternity pay (due to end of contract). Typical! Still – worth it!

What we had tried that didn’t work for us –
- using an old diaphragm to keep sperm in. Didn’t cause any problems, but nothing happened
- agnus castus (vitex) – lengthened my cycle (ov moved to CD18) and made my OPK results disappear (very weird, even the control line on them disappeared. Until then all brands had worked perfectly. Afterwards none of them worked). I would say don’t try it on the ‘offchance’ (which is what I did, stupidly).
- In the first part of my cycle, I had been taking evening primrose, drinking green tea and eating fresh grapefruit to try to increase CM. I hadn’t bothered this month.

For anyone interested in early pregnancy symptoms, I had nothing until the day my period was due. Then I had usual cramping pains (which have continued all week) which of course I just thought was my period on its way. Slight nausea but again nothing too much out of the ordinary. But then I went to bed in the afternoon and slept for 2 hours. I NEVER sleep in the day, which should have been a big clue! And over the week after my period was due, the other one was having a couple of erotic dreams… again not usual – I guess it’s the hormones. Finally by a couple of days after my period was due I was needing to go to the loo more often.

We are so happy and after having read these forums over many months and got so many tips and so much advice, are overjoyed to be finally announcing a BFP!

Wow so it can still happen, it really scares me when you read the longer yu are trying the less likely it is to happen, but this shows that for some of us it just takes longer thank others..

Good luck with everything, after 18 months and going for tests and everything you deserve your BFP all the more.

Congrats to you! x

Thanks Sophe, it really felt like a long haul and was causing real stress between us. Plus my DH said no way he would do IVF or anything more than unstimulated IUI, which meant our options were limited. That's why I went 101% on the natural route!

All the best to you too, I think all of us LTTCers are brave ladies, I never realised how hard it is until I've been through it, and there are a lot of women on here who've had a much longer journey. I will never forget how lucky I am if I do get to be a mum (just under 8 months to go now).

Aww what a nice story to read as I was starting to feel down. We have also been trying for 18mths.

I wish you all the best and enjoy your bump :) xx

Truly an amazing story....Heartiest congratulations and wish you all the very best for a H&H 9 months! We've also been TTC about 18 months, so this gives me so much hope.

Thanks girls and hang on in there. And it goes to show you don't always have to 'relax and forget about it' for it to happen. We certainly didn't relax, but kept trying, and trying out new things in the hope that they might make the crucial difference.

Congrats to you and hubby!

And yet another story about success after less BD'ing! We were the same as you - every other day at least and definitely BD on O day. But changed strategy this month - we BD'ed 3 days ago and now Im impatiently waiting for a positive OPK before BD'ing again. I hope it works for us too :winkwink:

Well the title says it all. Not ever taken precaution since i turned 30 and in Jan this year - BFP - unfortunately that only lasted 6 weeks. Devastated. thought it would never happen again, thought i prob wasn't even preggers! Kept on trying and got BFP straight after!! still in shock. 18weeks along now and all seems well, due date is Nov4th - and my 40th birthday is oct 8th so this is gonna be one helluva year!:happydance:

I have endometriosis which was masked for years while on the pill, this is the only reason i could find for not be able to conceive. Not done anything different at all which led to the bfp, the only thing was i had some Deserano drink at the weekends which i had never had before!!!! worth a try girls especially if you enjoy marzipan?!

Been with partner since 96 - after 13 years we finally got married, then two years on we are pregnant. Maybe deepdown i didn't want children out of marriage?

Good Luck to all of you trying and looking for inspiration, if it can happen for me then it can happen for ANYBODY! x x jilly x x

Alikins, Congratuflippinlations!! What a fab story! You have waited for so long and I'm made up you finally have your BFP! Thanks for sharing your 'dids' and 'did nots' with us, it's always good to hear! What form did you take the kelp in and where do you get it btw? I suffer from cold hands and feet too and if it helps to bring on a BFP - even better lol! Wishing you the happiest 9months :)

I've been trying for 16months and not long started temping. It's the only thing I'm doing at the moment so I will certainly look into your methods!

I'm 7dpo, due af on 10th and the worst thing is that my pre-af bloated budda belly is making me look at least 6months preg! - oh the torment!

Sophe, Donna, Quest and Maria goooooooood luck in your search for that BFP!! Congratulations missjinx and less of the old lol! I don't even think TTC could make me give marzipan or marzipan based drinks a go - ewwwww! lol! xxx

Hi LilLeafyLea, Just got the kelp from Holland and Barrett in tablet form. But took Siberian Ginseng at same time. It's important that it's Siberian Ginseng and not any other kind. Wasn't on it long enough to see if it worked for the cold hands, feet and nose!

Thanks for that Ali, I have the circulation of an 80 year old! OH is always moaning at me when I try to warm my feet on him in bed and BDing in thick bed socks isn't the sexiest look going lol! Talking of which the thought of you darting back from the airport at 90mph to DTD is hilarious!

Really do hope we all get our BFPs soon!!

My body has been playing tricks on me this month. I've had soooo many symptoms. My cycle is always 30 days and af lasts for 5 days this month af arrived 1 day early and only lasted 2 days.

Did a test on 29th may which was bfn :(

Lots of baby dust to all xx

Congratulations!! Stories like yours give me hope.

You live in Florida and wear socks to bed?! Now that's just pushing my face in it lol! In the Uk it's pretty much sub zero temperatures constantly!

I guess it's more of a feet thing then a cold feet thing,,, although I do freeze in Florida,, I'm wearing sweatshirts when it's 80* out. :dohh: I really have an issue with feet though, don't like them touching things or being touched.. Baby feet are the only feet I tolerate.. :haha:

Lmao! The feet thing is so common! My oh is like that, he bucks like a bronco if I touch them and tickling is strictly out of the question unless I want a foot in the face (involuntary of course! ..well I hope anyway!).
I'm with you on the baby feet though, I was with at my friend's house recently and she has just had a little boy - his finger/toes are sooooo tiny and the nails are miniature!!

Congratulations Alikins, you have given me even more hope. I've also been ttc for 18mths and we really are hoping to conceive naturally. I've known I have PCOS since 2007 and despite trying acupuncture, chinese herbs and lots of yoga, no baby. I believe I ovulate a few times a year because OPK says so and I have a regular 28-30 day cycle, just no little angel as yet. I also thankyou for all your do's and don'ts, I think I'll try the kelp capsules too. All the best for your next 9mths :)

Thank You! I love details on everything! Such as what worked, what didnt and symptoms! Hoping for mine soon after 15 months ttc. Congrats!!
