Naughty cravings anyone else?

With my first 2 pregnancies I never really 'craved' anything. I fancied refreshing things like cherry tomatoes and strawberries a lot but wouldn't say I craved them as such. It didn't drive me mad not to have them.

But this time, oh my god I have the biggest craving for pate! And it's something I know I 'shouldn't' eat.

But last weekend we went out for a meal at a gorgeous restaurant and I couldn't help myself so I ordered the pate starter with toasted ciabatta. Oh my god it was sheer heaven! Lol.

Since then it's literally all I can think about all day long.

I mentioned it to my midwife who said in moderation would be fine and that when she was pregnant she craved pate and mussels and ate both daily!

I may treat myself once a month but I must admit I did feel guilty after having the little bit on the weekend so not sure I could cope with having it more regularly, although I may have to! Lol.

Just wondered if anyone else is having cravings for things they shouldn't and if anyone has succombed to them?!

Luckily my cravings haven't been for 'banned' items, but I have had a chinese food problem lol! In the beginning all I could think about some days was fried rice and crispy duck :dohh: It's not quite as bad as it was and I've limited myself but when the feeling strikes its soooo hard to ignore!
 
For me personally I wouldn't take the risk with any of the listeria containing foods because it doesn't matter how much u limit it, there could still be listeria in that one portion you have. But that's just me!! I don't mean to attack you or anything for it so please don't think that lol!

I have had a glass of wine 2 or 3 times since I found out though and have been having treats with too much sugar etc when I feel like them. I know there are people who wouldn't let a drop of alcohol cross their lips so I guess it's everyone's preference. The stillbirth risk with listeria just scares me too much!
 
I love Chinese food! We've had takeaway at least once a week since I got pregnant. Our Chinese does the most amazing BBQ sauce and I could just eat it with a spoon it's that good! Lol.

I guess I'm lucky that I'm only craving pate and not anything worse or anything vile. In her last pregnancy my cousin craved Malibu, she was never a big drinker ever, and very rarely had ever drank Malibu but all of a sudden craved it. She used to get the bottle out and sniff it of pour some in a glass and dip a dummy in it then sick on the dummy! Lol.

I know there's always a risk, I never really followed the 'banned' items too religiously before. I ate Brie regularly and eat deli meats etc but pate I always managed to avoid mainly because I guess I never really fancied it.

This time I haven wanted Brie or the meats or anything but I practically dream about pate! Lol

Beer!!! I had this with my last too! I've got some non alcoholic ones though so at least that's ok. Other than that I've been drawn to naughty food :-/ chocolate, cakes, cookies!! Ahhh not good
 
I should have known better than to start thinking about Chinese food :haha:
 
Lol it's funny how I think we get obsessed with things cos we know we're not allowed them lol! It's like being on a diet and wanting a big greasy cheeseburger but knowing you can't lol
 
I don't think pate once or twice would be an issue. I know it's high in 1 vitamin (think A but I can't remember for sure) so know having it often wouldn't be good for that. Listeria-wise everywhere seems to have different recommendations - cold meats are a no no in America and as long as I knew it was fresh that wouldn't stop me having it occasionally.

This pregnancy I'm not wanting anything too meaty though. Really want sweet things but am trying very hard to resist as I was borderline for gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy and really don't want that...
 
I have deli meats from time to time. In fact, I'm eating a turkey sandwich right now for lunch! :o\
 
I don't know about pate. I'm in the US and I've never had it nor does it look appetizing to me lol. But I have deli meat subs pretty often, maybe once every week or two. I just really like sub sandwiches, ooh with extra oil and vinegar, yum... and I suppose if I feel comfortable eating it then I'm okay with that. I also ate some sushi that had seared ahi tuna on it, so it was partially cooked but not all the way. I hesitated because I know what everyone says... but because the risks are so minimal so I let myself eat it, and yeah it was delicious lol. I also had smoked salmon in a salad not too long ago. I've read that smoked meat is okay from some sources and others say to avoid it. With my first pregnancy I was a lot more strict, but this time I feel like a lot of things are different and I don't worry and get paranoid as much about the stuff that I used to. I didn't mean to turn my post into a list of all the bad things I've eaten, because I don't want to sound like I don't care about my baby. I just think that sometimes we get so scared to do anything because we Google stuff and hearing all these horror stories. I use my judgment and that's good enough for me!

Overall my cravings this pregnancy have been so different. With my daughter I wanted ice cream all the time, candy bars, chocolate, so many sweets! But with this one, I'm having a boy, and I know they say it's just a wives tale but all I want is sour stuff, like peperoncinis and giardiniera hot peppers/cauliflower/carrots, sour candies, salt and vinegar chips! I'm making myself super hungry lol.
 
I looove pate but I haven't eaten it during pregnancy as I know my ridiculous pregnancy appetite would make me want to eat the whole container with a loaf in one sitting :blush:
 
S'mores poptarts and Chinese food, too! Panda Express Beijing Beef. And I just moved somewhere where there's a panda express much closer, too :/ (they even have a drive through!)
Also french fries. When my sons fell asleep in the car yesterday I went through McDs and got myself fries which was a mistake because it's all I've been thinking about since!
I'm also allowing myself up to 2 diet cokes a day
I was pretty good about my diet last time around: No diet coke except when really going through withdrawl until my 3rd trimester and very sparse on the junk food and now I feel like it's just gone to hell! Still trying to keep mostly organic/free-range/hormone-free and fairly nutritious. All I'm saying is that when the organic hotdog was created, I'm pretty sure they were thinking of me!
 
Rcdm now you've got me wanting smoked salmon! Lol

I eat that pretty much on a weekly basis and have already had some this week but I may send oh out to the shop for me tonight. I may even ask him to grab me some pate :/

It was sushi for some time, and then I had a rather warm piece and it totally threw me off. Now its cold fountain Coke which I cant have more than a couple glasses.
 
I have had a strong craving for turkey sandwich, but I have refrained myself from eating the deli meat. I want the cold sandwich, not the hot/panini version.

That's interesting.... I craved chips with loads of vinegar and strongly flavoured stuff last time with my son. Too early to know what I'm having this time but I only want sweet stuff!
 
Ive had more than a couple of vietnamese chicken rolls, which have not only pate but also cold bbq chicken, but they are so yummy
 
Cigarettes:dohh: not necessarily to smoke myself but the smell of second hand smoke to me is amazing! Whenever my FOB would light up I'd be like "oh my god that smells so good" Honestly it's terrible!
Also Chinese food is a huge craving of mine, I'm going to visit FOB's mum today and told her I need to order some as nowhere round here does a decent chinese.
Crispy chilli beef with special fried rice and a platter with ribs, satay chicken, seaweed and spring rolls here I come:rofl:
 
Ive been craving for a turkey sandwich with provolone anf avocado. Like really bad. But I'll be good, and fight the craving.
