So my LO is just turning 8 months and been EBF. I'm tired of having no freedom and no nights off since she started to refuse bottles of EBM at around 3 months. She still refuses EBM and I'm not surprised as mine goes rank within hours of expressing even when boiled then chilled. A friend gave me a carton of aptamil to try, the stage 1, and I'm amazed to say she loved it. However she does have an intolerance to dairy, and got a rash on her face. This I could put up with for the odd bottle here and there as it won't be a regular thing, but about half an hour later she projectile vomited EVERYWHERE! It was vile. I'd only tried her on 100mls

So I assume this was a reaction to the formula as she's never sick. Are there any less rich or gentler ones I can try? Any suggestions gratefully received. I do want to stick to carton varieties as I'll be using it so infrequently tins would be a waste of money! She's ok with goats yoghurt but I see goats formula isn't licenced in the UK.

Thanks in advance

Only the regular, hungry baby and follow-on varieties of the 4 formula brands (Aptamil, C&G, SMA and Hipp) come in the ready made cartons. There is a greater choice of specialised formulas that come in powder form such as Soy, lactose free and what is called "comfort" milk which has some of the milk proteins partailly broken down to make it easier to digest. If your lo has a dairy intolerance then the more specialist milks would probably suit her better, but unfortunatly like I said they dont have carton versions.
Another option would be to use a product called "Colief". You add it to formula (cartons or made-up powder) a while before you feed it to your baby and what it does is it breaks down the lactose in the formula, so maybe this could help?? xxx

Do you get Gerber out there? They make a formula called Good Start, which is only one type of milk protein rather than two and it's partially broken down. It's not a speciality formula or expensive, but very easy to digest. Or Enfamil makes a partially broken down formula called Gentleease, that is very similar but does also include casein.

If those don't work, she probably has a milk protein allergy and will need something like Alimentum/Nutrimigen (milk protein totally broken down) or Elecare/Neocate (amino acid based)....not sure what you have in the UK though (I think Pregestimil is one )

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I'm pretty sure it's cmpi from the rash she gets from milk based foods. Just back from the supermarket but didn't buy anything, too confusing and expensive! Think I'll pop to the docs and have a chat..
