So a few weeks ago I had posted about Rocco getting sick twice in the car. He was fine for several days in between. So we took a trip to the beach, which was about a 7 1/2 hour drive. When we drove there, we left at 4am so he slept most of the way. Then when he did wake upc, he just relaxed and I think he dozed off a few times again. Well on the way home today, we left at 930am or so. So I knew he probably wouldn't sleep as long as he did on the way there. And I was afraid of him getting car sick so I gave him Dramamine. About a half an hour later, he was out cold for several hours. We stopped to get dinner and got back on the road. I didn't even think about it but a half hour later he threw up. So we went to my parents' (we were stopping there to drop something off) We cleaned him up some more and my Mom tried to
give him a little pasta. He wasn't interested but drank some juice. He was really cranky so we left. Barely even a minute down the road he threw up again. And again about 15 minutes into the trip. The poor kid. I just wanted to cry for him. We stripped him down again at home and he refused to get a bath. He fell asleep on my OH for a few minutes and now he's wide awake playing in his room!! I'm really not convinced he's sick. My Mom thinks he is, but what are the chances he'd throw up 5 times in the car but no where else??
But those of you with experience dealing with carsickness, does this sound like it? Can it pretty much happen any time like that? Even on a short trip?

I didn't want to read and run, but I have never experienced a child with that bad of car sickness. The little girl I nanny for gets it, but only when she's playing a video game in the car. He may just be extra sensitive, try asking your his pediatrician about it, he may be able to prescribe something for trips etc. Personally I think he got sick the second time because he had already been sick before that. I know after I throw up, any sort of movement shortly after can set me off again.

I get really bad car sickness and always have. Some times its far worse than other times - if I'm hungry or its hot I feel much sicker. And sometimes I can feel sick within minutes of the journey starting. I find lots of fresh air and looking out of the side window help me.

I'd keep an eye on him in case he is ill but I'd guess it probably is car sickness especially if he'd been in the car alot and hadn't eaten much.

I'd ask the pediatrician about this one, see if its better to try feed him before he gets in the car, or keep an empty stomach, keep the car very cool or open a window for him that really helps me. See if there are sea bands for kid ( I know its a long shot but why not try)
and also change his car seat, try it in a different place, it might work.

Well he did ok for a while. But it's now 4am and he woke up at 330 which isn't necessarily uncommon so it could be totally unrelated to the vomiting. He also had a poopy diaper before he went to bed and it was normal, no diarrhea. So I'm still leaning toward carsickness. We were in a house with 9 other people, and I would think someone else would be sick too. Because Rocco certainly didn't eat anything that no one else did. One little boy had a cold that he passed onto another boy, but he doesn't have any of those symptoms.
Thank you everyone. I thought we were doing everything right, but I guess eating and riding in the car immediately after, plus being in the car for like 10 hours just sent him over the edge :(

My friends youngest daughter gets carsick on any ride over 20-30 minutes and has since she was around 20 months. She is 4 now so they put airsick bags beside her seat just in case and she will use them. But when she was younger they would line the car, keep the windows open and stop frequently. She has it pretty bad though - she could never have done a 7.5h ride! For something like that they would give dramamine, but it doesn't always help. Also they find she is better with a little something in her stomach than nothing at all - and no car videos, books etc! xx
