Hi everybody,

I was recently made redundant in June of this year after being with my employeer for 4 and a Half yrs. I got a good pay out but obviously had to go on jsa (jobseekers allowance)

I now have recently found out I am pregnant roughly about 4 months i think (am waiting for a scan but we know what the nhs can be like) so I am absolutely thrilled after being diagnosed with PCOS.

So my question is... Do I tell my advisor at the job centre I am pregnant?
Also do I still have to look for work whilst claiming jsa knowing full well am employeer would proberly not employe me whilst pregnant and knowing I will be on maternity soon.
Final question is how long will I be able to claim jsa for? Because as far as I am aware I would like to still keep looking for a job.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Jem x

Hi there, u will still need to claim jsa and sign on until your 29 weeks pregnant then transfer over onto income support. I told my advisor early on I was pregnant and she was great she said she knew I wouldn't probs get a job but just keep fillin in ma diary as its a requirement x

Im 29 weeks pregnant and lost my job at about 8 weeks and went on jsa they didnt seem to thinkit made a difference and i still habeto look for work even tho i knowim not going to get a perm job when i only have 11 weeks to go im mostly looking for xmas temp jobs atm!
Im not sure how long you can keep claiming for but you can claim for maternity allowance but i dont know much about it yet cos no one at the job centre seems to knows anything about it!

Thanks for replying. I lost my job back in June and have been desperately trying to find a job. I'm only 17wks and just starting to show so shouldn't have a problem finding one. I just wasn't sure what happened regarding my jsa. I have been told elsewhere that once you reach 29wks you switch to income support? Is this right?

Many thanks

Ive heard that untill 11 weeks before due date you can claim jsa then youre on income support untill 15 weeks after baby is born. Can people living witg partner claim income support if he works full time ive heard if married you cant but what about if youre not.

I'm in the exact situation my partner works full time have 1 child who's nearly 3 and were not married. So if anybody can help answer this question also?! That would be fab :)

Thanks

Yeah I had an interview at the job centre when I was about 18 weeks (I think) because I had finished my year at uni and wanted to get a job to keep me occupied and save a bit of money before the baby came and I was told that if I lived with my partner I wouldn't be able to claim income support. In the end I didn't claim JSA anyway but I'm fairly sure you won't be able to get the IS if you live with your OH

Tell your advisor & they'll write it on your notes to excuse you from applying for heavy lifting jobs but that's all they do really, nice advisors would tell you to just fake your job search but the ones who feel all high and mighty :haha: will still push you to apply.
& like the others said you'll stay on jsa til 11 weeks before your due date :)

Yeh mine seems really pushy. So I will proberly be made to apply for every single job going. But it's not long I have to apply for now.

Thanks

Jem
