hi ladies,

i've had two days of bloody show and no contractions yet... am about to go for a walk, but i need some ideas of spicy food i can eat for dinner tonight!

mexican food isn't really appealing to me now, and dh doesn't like african food...

some ideas i have so far are:
- indian food
- roti

...and that's all i can think of!! any other ideas??

Everyone suggests curries as an old wives tale, but it doesn't usually work and I don't think spicy foods are really recommended due to the whole diarrhoea as a symptom of labour thing... I know that I'm not gonna want a burnt bum hole in addition to the pain of labour :P

yeah, hmm... i'm not goign to eat it spicy enough to burn my bum hole!!

Hahah, then go for it. I already have problems because of my iron tablets, I wouldn't want to add to it :P

I was tempted to get a spicy curry but I don't normally eat them - also I get heartburn still and I'm not sure if I feel like suffering the heart burn for something that may/may not work!

Has anyone tried it and it has worked?

my midwife said to eat things that encourage diarrohea...(but obv drink water to keep u from being dehydrated)......so (sorry for tmi) spicy curry pot noodles usually do the trick for me......& kizzyboo (on here) said prunes or prune juice also has that effect xxx

hmmm... diarhea inducing foods... for me that would be a cup of tea, but it also gives me horrible stomach cramps!! so :nope: what else....? i'm allergic to prunes, so maybe another half-caf coffee?

I love Jalepeno peppers. You can have them in loadsa things (lovely mixed in to pasta with tomato and basil sauce and cheese) and if I eat enough they certainly make me a little "free-flowing" lol. Plus - they are packed full of vitamin C.

recipe my OH cooks all the time

Serve it with rice, and put the rice on, when uve added the corned beef

1 tin of plum tomatoes
1 onion
2tbsp curry powder
1/2 green pepper
1 or 2 scotch bonnets depending on how hot u want it
pinch of salt
1 chicken stock cube
3tbsp water

***mix it all up in a blender until its all blended up then bring to the boil on hob (with a splash of veg oil in***

then add 1 tin of cut up corned beef to the pot and mix up like a sauce then cook for 20 mins or however long ur rice takes

It is honestly the yummiest thing Ive ever eaten...xx

Chinese! Noodles and stir fried veg with garlic, ginger, five spice and a big spoon full of chilli. You could stick some sweet chilli sauce in there too...yum!

Curry works for me and I can say that hand on heart. With my second I was two weeks over and no sign of anything happening; even a sweep failed but about 36 hours before I was due to be induced I ate a big curry meal; not a hot one but one with a lot of aromatic spices; turmeric, cloves etc, that night I woke up with what I thought was indigestion but it turned out to be precipitous labour; 3 hours later I had my son. With my youngest I didn't want to go over at all as I dearly wanted a home birth and in that area they were not keen on attending a home birth being anything more than 5 days over; so the day before my due date I did the same. If I remember rightly I had chicken makhani/butter chicken, lamb rogan josh and a couple of mild vegetable curries; with peshwari naan. I felt my son physically move down as I was eating, before that he was very high, not engaged in any way whatsoever, I went upstairs to show my husband and he nearly fell over! The next morning I had a bloody show but nothing major; then I went into full blown labour out of nothing at about 6.15pm; my son was born just after 8pm. So yep works for me and will definitely be trying it again. I don't believe its the chillis; its the rich and aromatic spices. I didn't have painful diarrhoea but it certainly 'gently' cleaned me out beforehand.

ok, so i've prepared a spicy taco seasoning i often make and added some extra kick to it  i know i said i didn't want mexican food, but i didn't know what else to make and there's freezing rain outside so i can't go out to get takeout... will check in later to tell you if it worked!!
