Hi,
My hubby and I have now been trying TTC for nearly 4 years now, my hubby had a VR about 5 years ago, and his Sperm count has always fluctuated from 15 mil to highest 17 mil, it was the motility thats always been a bit crap, so we kind of new what our fertility problem was, we been TTC like mad the last year, as my age is now 45 :( , so I was clingling on to the hope it will happen before its too late, Im 46 in sept,we got two more SA tests done recently on my hubby, and now his counts gone dowm to 3 mil, so its getting worse, so we decided to see a vasectomy surgeon, to get advice and he wants to do a VR repair and has given us a 70% success rate from it, in the mean time I had an AMH test done, and its come back 1.5, which is very low..... the surgeon doesnt see this as a problem, he doesnt see my age a problem either, Ive had all manner of tests done, all is good, except I did have a Day 21 (progesterone ) test done, which came back low, was only 4.0, only had this offeedr the once though from my GP, so timing could of been off ,and now this AMH test comes back low,so as far as im aware these are only tests that showed a problem as such in me..... we have gone ahead and booked a VR repair for my hubby in June, but I am panicking because Im so worried we still wont get preganant given my age and AMH results, I mean we are spending £3k having this repair done, so its a finacial commintment, and I DO want a baby so much, dont get me wrong, but one part of me is so worried it still wont happen, I sit there awake at night thinking my eggs (what I do have left) are so old and probelry are on walking sticks:wacko:,my imagination gets the better of me and makes me feel like crap... its all getting to me, I just need to discuss this with someone, my hubby keeps trying to reassure me it will happen and is banking it all on this repair operation to get his count back up, and just like majic we will be pregnant.... My trouble is i anaylise everything and cant trust even a Dr in what he says... do you think we are doing the right thing? is it worth it all, even if we dont get pregant from it, least we can say we tried, or do you think given my age, we must be mad? Im worrying myself silly over this, and if it doesnt happen, I know I will feel like a complete failiure, thanks from a very worried and confused Jane xxx

Hi Janie,

Sorry this is all on your plate, but I will be honest.

First, I don't think you should put so much trust into the VR doc as you should your gyno or fs. I would talk to them before the repair because yes, your and AMH, and the fact that your progesterone was low are factors in whether or not you will conceive. The VR doc may not see these things as an issue because he doesn't specialize in that area. If you talk to your gyno/fs and they say the same thing (I personally don't think they will) then you have to consider something else.

Early in your post you said that even when dh's count was around 15-17mil the motility wasn't great. I know his count is low now, but the focus is more on his motility. Will the repair fix that? I don't see how, but I could be wrong as I don't know much about the repair. But for 3K, you want to be sure that's the only issue and that it will work. The 70% success rate sounds like it's only in regards to the repair...not including the other things you mentioned, which if that's the case would be inaccurate for your situation.

Maybe after talking to your gyno/fs they could save you the 3K and your dh a surgery. IUI's help with the motility issue cause it puts the sperm right by your tubes, and those generally cost a few hundred dollars. There may be some meds for your AMH and you could take progesterone to help get those numbers up. Not to say this is what you would need, just trying to throw some options your way.

But definately talk to you gyno/fs first.

Good luck and :dust:!

I agree with everything No Doubt says.

Please do speak to your FS first.
