hello ladies

Im in a bit of a pickle about feeding my LO.

He is on cow and gate and i make up sterile bottles of water for the day then add the powder to room temp water and warm it in a bottle warmer.

He started out on regular c&g and was straining and going for quite a solid poo every couple of days. In a panic i changed him to comfort milk and he has had this for 2 weeks.

the straining continued even though he was doing a poo every day and he was getting fractuous between feeds- really fussy and was pushing so much he was being sick after feeds.

i spoke to a MW who said the comfort milk can make their poo runny in their systems so even when they dont need to go they can feel it moving about in their belly and it makes them uncomfortable. she suggested trying 2 weeks on original c&g and see if he is more comfy as his poo will be more solid.

i started him on original c&g on sunday he has not pooed since and is straining away and whimpering between feeds. this morning he was not fussed over his bottle and spent the whole time he was awake pushing and crying.

a friend of my husbands family said she had the same problems with her LO and solved this by making up the feeds, keeping them in the fridge and warming them up, as adding the powder to the hot water made it dissolve better and seemed to be better for her babies belly.

im so stuck on what to do now. do i go back to comfort so that he is pooing, or hold out on the original forumla for 2 weeks and see if things improve?

im so tired of having a baby that every waking moment is red in the face and straining with not much happening. its making me so sad for him and i just want to see him happy.

do i go the old fashioned route and keep the bottles in the fridge and see if that helps? do i stick out with the formula or go back to comfort where at least he could have a poo each day?

im so confused about what to do ....does any one have any experience with this and can give me a heads up on how to help him?

Hi Hun, my lo was constipated so we swtiched to comfort which made him worse, gave him explosive diorreah (sp) n tummy pains he was constantly unsettled. We switched to c n g 1 with colief drops added ( on advice of hv) n seems so much better.
I make my bottles up by adding cooled boiled water ( if 4oz bottle put 2 oz in) then put in fridge. When lo needs feed, boil kettle n add 2 oz to cooled water n this makes it the perfect temp.
Have you been to see your hv? My lo was rubbish on sma, loads better on c n g, maybe you could try a different formula. Xx

its interesting that the comfort milk did that to your lo. mine just seemed so fussy over the last two weeks. wont nap or generally sit quietly. just squirmed about and cried.

i think i might try to stick with the g&g 1 and go back to trying a drop of the colic stuff and see if that works.

its so complicated!!!

my baby was awful poorly with wind or colic.we had her on SMA gold for 2 weeks, but she hardly ever pooed and had terrible trouble going,it was also greenis and hard when passed.we changed her to C&G comfort and for her its the best thing i ever did..her poos are slightley softer yes but more yellow and she goes more regular..so in my babys case it was good for her.Im also an old fasioned mum and dont make bottles the new way(adding powder later)i make 6 bottles and refridgerate them, they are used within 24 hrs or discarded of.Amaris is my 6th baby/child and iv always done it that way..never hurt my children they are perfectly fine.
i cant believe how things have changed.i also think all this faffing about making bottles the new way is a pain in the bum and not necessary if your bottles are sterilised and made up and cooled.
my opinion though..
xx

also a bit of gripe water if your baby is over 4wks/1mnth.given before or after feeds.i find my baby is better winded with the gripe water after her feed and it helps immensely with griping pain
xx

Hi hun

I have no experience with the comfort milk and I am actually considering changing Holly to it myself, but am not sure. I just wanted to say I have faffed with making up bottles and tried several different ways, but I agree the easiest way to do it is to fill each bottle with 3oz of boiled water at the beginning of the day and leave on the side. When Holly wants a feed I top it up with 1oz of freshly boiled water, then add the formula and shake. This makes it the perfect temp xx
