hello,
I just got out off the hospital 2 days ago w/ my LO. At the hospital they told me not to feed him more then an 30ml every 3 hours or so well i find he will eat that every 2 hours
should I increase the amount he gets at a feeding if he wants it?

What was the reason they said no more than 1oz every 3 hrs? That really isn't much at all.
Many people feed on demand - so baby gets what they want when they want...they don't over feed as general rule.

I fed Jaymee when she wanted it and what she wanted to take , if he still wants more or is waking up alot to eat feed him more or less your his mom you will figure it out eventually , good luck ,

I remember when i was in the hospital with Jaymee they came in and WOKE her up because i hadnt fed her in 2 hours and it was clear she didnt want it and the nurse just ended up making her mad

I'd make up an extra oz hun, if your LO needs it she'll take it.

Don't worry about overfeeding her - if she takes more than she needs she will bring it up anyway.

I was never told to feed a certain, I've always just fed on demand - however much he wants whenever he wants x

30ml isnt much at all, how much does he weigh?

Sydnee is on 60ml every 3 hours & she is 5lb now. they did tell me not to give her more because her tummy cant cope with it & she will be sick, but she sometimes takes more than that & has been fine, not sick at all.

If he seems to want more id give him it.

i've been demand feeding now and its working out alot better so far

If he is finishing the 1oz every 3 hrs then I would make up 2 oz and see how he is on that.

On back of formula tub I have it says newborn 3 oz every 4hrs as a guide.

Feed on demand :flower: thats what we did! if a baby is hungry then a baby is hungry! :flower:

As a newborn their feeding schedule doesn't need a schedule to it until IMO their about 4 weeks old. So I personally think you should feed on demand until the baby is 4 weeks and then come up with a feeding schedule based off of how much your little man eats and how often - that way you can create a routine with him.

Just re-read this I thought it said 90ml.

30ml is bugger all, my LO took more than that on his very first feed!

You should have a much happier baby if you feed on demand :)

30 ml is very little, my baby wasnt allowed home til she was on 80mls(at a full term age)

She was on 30mls at like something daft like 32 weeks gestation.

u can go upto 90 ml per feed during the 1st two weeks. 30 ml is too little. I used to give my LO 60 ml every 2-3 hrs during the 1st week.

thanks 30ml is deff too little, lol he eats so much more then that. i dont know why the hospital told me that much:growlmad:
