Hi everyone i'm amanda and i'm currently 30 weeks pregnant with my first baby.

anyway i need some advice really....

everythings gone super smooth with this pregnancy until now that is, about 3 weeks ago i started getting small white lumps around my back passage,(SORRY!) and they've gradually got worse and also around the entrance and inside my V... its quite bad now and it turns out its HPV (genital warts)

im finding this extremely hard to type because its so humiliating, i've only ever slept with one person, my OH and he never had any symptoms or anything of it, but apparently something like 80% of us carry HPV but most will never get symptoms of it (like the warts) but pregnancy tends to bring them out because of low immunity etc...

anyway because mine are active and everything and they're surrounding my V entrance i don't think i'm going to be able to have a normal birth:cry:
i dont know what to do, i feel like crying. :cry:has anyone experienced this? im hearing conflicting things, some say you can ahve a normal vaginal birth and others are saying no way c section is the only route ? :(

first of all welcome to bnb!
sorry your having a hard time :hugs:
i really don't know... have you spoke to you GP/MW?
xx

I would go to your doctors hun, it might be embarrassing but you definately need to go and get checked out, they may be able to offer you antibiotics for it :hugs:

I haven't spoken to them no, im so embarrassed about it, i know i need to though for babies sake. its just got so bad and it keeps spreading

why mee?! :(

Welcome to BnB.
I would go to your doctors and talk to them about it. I know it may be humiliating but its better to tell them now, then have them find out later. Maybe they can prescribe something to clear up the breakout. I know that if you have a breakout they will discourage you from doing a vaginal birth because it can get tranferred to baby, but if you talk to your doctor and clear up the breakout you should be able to do it normally.

Aw hun, they're doctors, they won't care about it, they see it every day. If you are really worried why not go to a drop in sexual health clinic? That way you won't have to wait for an appointment or see them again?

,its not the worst thing out there so dont stress that okay :)
1 in 4 people have it and 85% dont know they have it.
my midwife told me that if there is no outbreak when i go into labour i can have a normal birth but it will have a shorter time frame as its to be safe for baby,or if there is an outbreak then it will be a c-section.
but either way Please dont stress

edit:it does come and go,im not sure where you are but i use zovirax when i have an outbreak, over here we can get it from the supermarket as its a cold sore cream :)

opps i miss read it,i thought you were talking bout HSV,cancel my advice or try it lol

I think some of you are getting HPV mixed up with Herpes...

Hpv doesnt cause sores and cream wont make them go away. once you have a "wart" its just like any other wart and has to be cut/frozen off.

An active herpes infection can cause the infant to get herpes in their lungs which is why you cant have a vaginal birth if you have an "outbreak"

there is no such thing as an "outbreak" of HPV. you get warts or you dont.

Im sorry you are going through this, I had to have a cone biopsy where they cut out a cone shaped piece from the middle of my cervix due to hpv causing precancerous cells to form. Go to the doc, no one can give you better advice than they can.

:hugs:

First off welcome and congrats on your pregnancy :)
Have you had it confirmed by your doctor that's it's HPV?
As ablacketer said I think some of you have it confused with Herpes, HPV
is a virus therefore there is no anti-biotic or creme way to make it go away.
It will usually clear up on it's own, once it's run it course. But there are no such thing as an HPV outbreak, you either have a type that causes genital warts or you don't.
You really need to see your doctor hun, for your sake and your LO's. Good luck:hugs:

yes i had a mix up but i stated that at the end of my post lol

HPV genital warts can be treated with cream but it cant be used whilst pregnant as the cream has been proven to be able to pass through the placenta.
whilst pregnant the only way to ge trid of them is to get them frozen off. i only know this as i had a major break out whilst pregnant with the twins. luckily though the body can build up a resiliance to it. the body wont get rid of it as its one of those things that lay dormant for sometimes years in the body but it can build up a resiliance so if another breakout does occur its not as severe as first time.
they do tend to just die off and fall off by themselves after pregnancy. within 6-8 weeks after having the twins i had none left.
you do need to get them seen to if you want to attempt a vaginal birth especially if you have them around the entrance or even in the vaginal canal as you defiantely cant have a vaginal birth if you have due to the risks and complications it will bring up.
they cause the skin to be less elastic so the vaginal canal wont stretch as much as it should be able to and also if you tear and one of the warts tear and some of the blood gets to baby the it can cause warts to grow in baby's eyes, or even worse mouth and lungs which in turn can suffocate baby.
so you really need to get them seen to. the freezing is uncomfortable for a few days but once frozen they tend to fall off within 7 days.
please get them seen to hun its not that embarassing really, just think what else they have to put up with, warts isnt that ugly compared to alot of other genital problems!

oh and FYI even though it was only last year i was last pregnant i have been having regular tests and swabs since and within a year my body has built up a strong resiliance to it already so shouldnt affect me this time round, so it wont affect you forever. just have to be careful in the future cos even though it will lie dormant you can still pass it on. xx

Thankyou everyone for the replies :)

what im equally as worried about is what im going to tell everyone why i have to have a c-section!! ? i cannot tell my family that i have warts...i just cant!!

What would be other reasons for having a c-section bar emergency which i could use? i sound awful lieng to them. but i'd just rather not tell them why, they're all a bit stuck up.

i know this may be going completely off track but it wouldnt be piles would it?
and feel as though they are so close to the other part down there coz its all swollen and stuff?x

You could tell them...

1. You have a large baby
2. Problems with the placenta (Placenta Previa)
3. Pre-eclampsia
4. Failure of labor to progress

I dont like lying but there is no way in hell that I'd tell my family I had an STD either! lol. Even if it is something like HPV that everyone has, that is just way too embaressing. Good luck. Whatever you tell them just dont tell them till closer to due date and make sure you tell them its nothing to worry about, the c-section is just a precaution. xx
