I am just about 20 weeks. I had my gender/anatomy scan yesterday. Let me back up...
At 13 weeks I began bleeding lightly. I went in and they found a subchorionic hematoma (blood clot between the uterus and placenta). My dr told me that I would probably continue to bleed or I may not and my body would absorb the clot. Bleeding was off and on, nothing to concern me.
This past weeknd I all the sudden had large amounts of bleeding and it was red, not the maroon/brown that I had seen previously. I was concerned but hubs and I thought maybe it was just more of the clot coming out. I stayed home from work on Monday and we went to the ultrasound on Tuesday.
We saw our beautiful baby, perfect and healthy. A sweet girl.
We are sooo excited to have a girl. I told the ultrasound tech that I'm still bleeding and she said well I don't see the clot anymore so I'm going to do an internal ultrasound to see if we can see what is causing the bleeding.
She took a look and then went to get a doctor. (scary moment) Apparently I have a low lying placenta AND my cervix is measuring 2.4cm which is not in the normal range of 3.5-4.0cm. They also saw some funneling of the sac into the cervix BUT they aren't sure if my old c-section scar is causing the sac to do that or if it's actually funneling. My doctor doesn't want to do a cerclage because she thinks it's too risky if the sac is funneling. She also checked me and said my cervix is closed but soft. I'm now on bedrest and being checked every two weeks. They did not give me medicine to take or anything. I am worried but I still have faith that bedrest will help this baby girl stay in.
Sorry this was SO long but if you have any success stories or unsuccessful but advice please share! I'm not sure what's normal....my dr and her supervising dr have never seen this before. I carried my first child to 39 weeks and he was 9lbs 10 oz and never a problem at all. They say normally if your cervix is incompetent it's evident before you have a child...it doesn't just get weak for no reason.
Please share anything!
