Hi ladies!

Tomorrow I start my 5-day Clomid round with a + OPK/IUI following :)

This is the first time I've tried anything other than BD, so I'm looking around at the other threads to get some info.

Anyone want to give advice to the noob? :)

Welcome.. you're in a VERY similar situation to me. I will be started Clomid later this week if AF comes and then having my very first IUI. I wish you the best of luck!!!!

I am secretly hoping that we conceived on our own before we start this.. AF is due Wednesday...

Thanks Holly :)

I'm kind of excited to venture into uncharted territory, only I wish it was without help. I'll probably be writing a lot more about it as I go through it.

Can't wait to see what you have to say, too!

I agree ~ I wish it was without help as well. Have you been TTC on your own for awhile?? I just got married in October and we went just to get everything checked out, DH's SA came back with high abnormality and low count... soooo off we go to IUI bc there were 2 issues. I am sort of glad in a way to be pursuing this- increasing the odds a little.. and hoping a helping hand is all we need! :)

Yeah, we are on our 10th official cycle TTC, and a bit of NTNP before that.

Plus my age - that's a bit long for us. I think I'm nervous about IUI because the natural way hasn't worked and it's sort of one less "lifeline" to be able to fall back on.

But, it's a necessary evil, so here we go!

I understand... my DH and I were not really using a protection consistently about a year before we actually started so that's another reason my doc didn't want to wait so long. Will you pursue IVF if IUI doesn't work? My doc said we will get about 3 attempts @ IUI before taking that next step~ gosh~ I hope it doesn't resort to that though.

I've have used clomid but it didn't result in pg for me but I also had other issues. The hard part about clomid for me was the headaches and hot flashes and I was moody but everyone is affected differently. good luck to both of you!

Yes, we're open to IVF. But we probably won't jump right into it if IUI fails. Our doc also said to give it 3 times. Stats show there's not much benefit to doing it more than 3 if you're open to IVF.

I am in school for the next 2.5 years and while I could handle a singleton pregnancy (and maybe twins), the odds of multiples is higher with IVF, so it's better for me and potential offspring if I were to wait until my 4th year of school, when my rotations are lighter and I'm not on call every 3rd night and standing in the OR all day. With potential multiples in me!

my eggs are good quality so waiting a couple years for IVF is not a big deal.

I've heard the same thing about not trying more than 3 times with IUI. The thing is with IVF- it's *SO* expensive. I am SO incredibly thankful to have any fertility coverage- but it only covers up to $24,000. Soooo I figure I will only get maybe 2 attempts at that max which is very scary.

I know what you mean about multiples too. Taking care of my first son was HARD - and that was just ONE. The doc said there is a slightly higher risk of multiples with taking Clomid for the IUI too. I personally have zero desire for twins- but honestly- I'd consider it a blessing too if it was that or nothing, you know?? I'm in such a similar situation to you though- in soooo many aspects. I work full time and also am back in school which is quite a load - and I already have a son that I am taking care of- that's something I worry about too. That is great that you have some time though and there is no rush on the IVF.

I know for myself- I probably will put off school FOR the IVF just bc I have a great job now- it just isn't my cup of tea- but I'd be willing to stick it out longer for the right reasons.

What are you in school for?

hi beau and holly-
we have gone through 2 clomid + iui cycles (hopefully starting number 3 now). from what i have experienced and read, everyone has totally different experiences! for me, the two cycles were COMPLETELY different in both side effects and IUI experience. you just never know, i guess. but most people do fine with everything so don't worry. just take it day by day and ask tons of questions to your dr when you have them (and to us bnb ladies!).

ps beau-my dr says the exact same thing about the # of cycles to try iui/clomid (do we have the same dr? could be!)

hope this is the right combo for you guys!

Thanks 1hopefull.. I'll keep my FX'd that 3rd time is a charm for you!

Beau~ how did your first day of Clomid go?

Hi girls, I have also just finished my first cycle of Clomid...currently awaiting OV.

Does anyone know when to expect OV? I've read on the internet that it takes between 5-10 days after last Clomid tablet but I'm not quite sure. I'm using OPK but just dont want to miss the date.

Fingers crossed for all of us! x

Hi nl22! :) How did you feel after taking the Clomid?? I am not honestly sure how long it takes after the last tablet... I JUST got my prescription filled today and haven't started yet. I am 200% planning on using OPK's- are you using those so you don't miss the date???

All the best for your IUI 'Beau Geste' and '1hopefull'!

I am getting Gonal F for IUI this time but probably I am out for this month as I might be ovulating during the weekend.

Hey hollyw - 1st day was okay. I had a bit of a headache today that came on around lunch, but I don't know if that's related to the meds or the holiday stress!

I've heard 5-10 days too. But then again, for those who O on their own and use clomid for super O they O'd closer to their typical time.

I'm using OPKs for my clomid cycle too... we can compare notes for when we O!

Oh how funny! I'm in northern IL and our dr's office is in Naperville. It would be a hoot if we did have the same dr! FWIW, I really like mine :)

We are also in northern IL (very north). My Dr is in Hoffman Estates (and 3 other locations). But I am in Naperville all the time to visit fam! So glad you really like your dr, it is sooo important! it also makes me really glad to see the same advice from different offices.

Glad your first day of Clomid went well. I am getting mine tomorrow (a miracle in itself) and am starting on Thursday. Hoping 3rd times a charm. I spoke with my dr today and if this doesn't work, sounds like we have to accept moving on to IVF. Again, really reallly really hoping 3rd time is a charm!!!

Good luck to all the ladies on here! Hope very one handles the 'clomid crazies' well through the holidays!

Hey Nl22. I am in my first clomid / IUI cycle this month. I ovulate on my own so am taking clomid to up the chances. I usually O on cd12 o3 13. I took clomid cd3-7 and this month didn't O until cd16, which is the latest it's ever happened for me since I started keeping track - 18 months ago. :winkwink:. My doctor told me not to start using OPK until day 10 (I usually start on day 6) since starting earlier may give it a false positive because of the clomid. Hope that helps!

I didn't like the experience while on clomid - I was one of the rarer cases who had vision problems while on it and was oh so super mooody. Hope you girls have less side-effects.

I'm currently on 2dpo so expecting news one way or another in the first couple of days of 2011.
