I start my new job tomorrow. I'm so nervous it's ridiculous! It's a much less stressful job than my previous one and it's exactly the same hours and money.

I got the job offer on the 25th November and accepted straight away and then found out in the 5th December that I was pregnant.

I honestly didn't think I would make it this far in the pregnancy as I have a history of losses and I haven't actually had anything apart from a positive test to confirm my pregnancy.

I have a midwife coming round Saturday for my booking in appointment and I guess I will get my 12 week scan date in the post after that.

I really don't know what to do about work, do I tell them straight away? I would much rather wait until I've had a scan to see if things are progressing ok.

Also I'm worried as I have a 4 month probation so they could technically get rid of me when I tell them as I will only have worked there for 4 weeks by the time I tell them.

What would you do?

:flower:

Congrats on the new job and your pregnancy

I would wait until your scan and see how you feel then. You don't need to tell them right away but I'd just be careful that you're not at risk, such as heavy lifting or anything that could cause you or baby harm.

I got made redundant and went for an interview at 6 months pregnant - they offered me the job and said they didn't know I was pregnant!!!

They can't dismiss you because you're pregnant. Your probationary period will be based on your skills and sickness, if they dismissed you for pregnancy related issues then that's unfair dismissal and you can take them to tribuneral.

If it were me, I'd carry on as normal and wait until my scan as long as I wasn't at risk of harm from the job. Good luck!

Thank you so much x

It's an accounts job so nothing strenuous. Had my first day today and really enjoyed it! I really think I'm going to love it there and will definitely want to return after maternity leave.

I think I will wait until after the scan, it makes sense. And I accepted before I knew so hopefully they will be ok, they all seem like lovely people but they are under pressure which is why they took me on. Hopefully I can get them caught up before August!

The exact same thing happened to me when I was pregnant with my son.

I waited until After i had my 12 week scan to tell them. I think that there is a certain time you have to tell them in order to claim maternity allowance or SMP, but I can't remember what it is. Perhaps read up on it just to make sure you're covered!

I was worried they'd sack me too but they were really lovely and supportive :)

Good luck!

That's good to hear, thank you! I know I have to tell them before I'm 25 weeks and that I won't be entitled to smo but hopefully will get maternity allowance x
