Hi all

Would like some advise on what to do.... I have a job interview next week for a deputy manager position which is much better than the job I have now. However Iam in middle of cycle n will be ovulating next week. This means if I get the job I won't know if I have been blessed that month with a sticky bean.
So my questions are do I put TTC on hold while going to interviews? Do you think it's bad to start a new job while TTC?
What will happen if I get the job and am pregnant?

Such a hard situation 😢
Thank you xx

I was in this exact situation some 2.5 years ago. We had been trying for 8 months, and I had an interview for a job. I had been ill too, so we said we'd give it a miss that month and I got a BFP anyway :dohh: lol.

I started the job while 6 weeks pregnant, and waited until my first scan to tell anyone and when I did tell them they were shocked but ok.

I don't know whether you'd be affected for things like leave and pay though, if it's an internal promotion rather than an entirely new job. I was royally buggered by mine as I had already handed in my notice at my old job and had my start date when we found out. Therefore I lost all right to SMP and Maternity leave. I had to claim MA and had no job after my money ended. However, I've now got a wonderful 20 month old whom I wouldn't change for the world, plus he's got a nearly 6mo baby brother too!

Thank you for your reply and congrats on your two babies.
The job is with a different company my interview is today so I've decided to go for that and see what the outcome is. At the moment in my current job I am only entitled to SMP. Goin to see what the benefits are working for this other company and then make the decision together.
Did they not keep you on at your new job after your maternity ran out?

If you conceive before you start a new job then you wont have accrued enough time/length of service to get that entitlement or SMP. I found out about my BFP 4 days before I started my new job, but has already finished my old job. :dohh: You have to have been in service for 26 weeks when you reach 29 weeks pregnant, otherwise you have to claim MA and they don't have to take you back on afterwards. When I started I was 6weeks PG so only accrued 23 weeks. As I was taking on a 1 year contract, they didn't keep me on.With us it was simply bad timing, but to be honest it worked out well as I fell pregnant (again accidentally lol) very quickly after DS2 was born, and with DS3 coming so quickly I don't think I would have been able to work much anyway as I was pretty knackered! lol

Good luck with the new job. I'm currently job hunting (again!) and it's tough going at the moment.

If you are pregnant when you start, you will still be entitled to maternity leave and they MUST allow you to return after it ends (some exceptions in redundancy situations, fixed-term contracts, etc. but it sounds like you are going for a normal job). What you would not be entitled to is SMP.
