i have just strated to ff my LO as i could not carry on brest feeding. i was wondering how you where preparing your feeds. i have decided to feed at room tempreture so that when we r out i dont have to worry about warming up the feed, someone told me to boil the water and put in the the bottle and leave the bottles on the side and then when ready to feed just to add the powder as and when needed!! is this ok??

If this is fine, how long will the bottles of water last before???

thanks for your help ladies!!

you can do that but it wont make your milk powder sterile. Personally i make up bottles 24hrs in advance, and store them in the fridge but im sure plenty of people will tell you not too xxx

do u then warm them up?? what do u do when u go out??

thankd x

yeah, i boil the kettle 5mins before hes due a feed and warm the bottle up in a jug of hot water. They dont take too long to warm up. If im going out it depends if hes due his feed within an hour, i heat it up before i go out and put it into an insulated bottle bag. But if his bottles due in over an hour then i take it from the fridge and put it into a insulated bottle bag, then find a cafe when hes due a feed to warm it up. Im rarely out long enough to need to take more than 1bottle with me. If im going to a friends, mums etc then i pop the bottle in their fridge and warm it up as i do at home. X

I am currently breast feeding and topping up, what I have been advised to do with bottles is sterilise them, add the boiling water, Harry is currently having 3oz bottles, so i put 2.5oz of boiling water in and leave in the fridge or on the side, and then when it time to feed I top the bottle up to 3oz with boiling water and add the 3 scoops of formula. The milk is just slightly warm. Apparenty its not adviced to make bottles in advance anymore, however I did with my three year old and had no problems. When out and about I have a small flask of boiling water, and a scoop dispenser, Hope that helps abit xx

Thats exactly how I do it  They stay sterile for 24 hours...

And on the cow and gate box it says not to add the powder to the boiling water, which is why ive never done it that way.

But yeah room temp feeds are definatly the easiest and quickest way!

xx
