Hi everyone, just looking for a few opinions please! :flower:

Our son was born on 29th Oct so he is now 6 days old. In the hospital we tried to BF him but he was just too lazy to suckle, I had a long and stressful labour and gave up quickly and moved to FF... it took him a while to start feeding properly from the bottle. We have him on c&g (premade in the hospital and powder once we got him home)

In hospital he was being fed once every 3-4 hours and he was taking 1oz, once we got him home we tried to carry this on but he doesnt usually wake for a feed this often, it's more like every 5-6 hours and he takes 2oz, though he sometimes wakes a little faster but he then only takes his 1oz again.

He seems very content after his feeds, he is having wet and dirty nappies but I'm still a little concerned that he isn't taking enough... what were your newborns eating at this age and when did they start to take more?

Hiya,

My midwife told us that we had to wake our LO every 4hours for a feed if she didn't wake herself?

I would mention the 1oz to your midwife / HV, but I don't think there is any concern at the moment.

its a big wide world out here and your baby is trying to learn how to suck, my lo was on 2oz every 2hours for the first 2weeks then upped to 3oz week 3 every 3hours then at 4half weeks upped to 4oz every 4hours im very lucky and at 6 weeks has 4/5oz every 4hours and goes 8hr in night x

We tried powder too by he didnt like it. It was too gritty and didn't get through easy enough for him. Now we are using the liquid concentrate. Just a thought.

I didn't count the feeds then and I still don't at 5 months. If diapers are good and baby is content, leave it be. Baby is fine. Do not concern yourself with those details, there's no need for it - your LO is only 6 days old and you don't need any more stress :)

I must chime in here. A new born may not always wake up when hey are hungry. Their brains are just getting wired up for this. You should wake baby up every 4 hours for the first two weeks if she's not doing it herself. I had many feeds of 1 oz but I knew he was getting something. Those first days are crucial. No need to stress at all, I agree but do be aware and help baby adjust by helping her feed.
