Hi

I’m just wondering how your children got on. I have a just turned 5 year old and a new born just wondering really how they reacted and got on after the baby was born and how did you feel?

Just looking for other people experiences with similar age gap?

Thanks x

Mine are 14 months apart so I have no experience of that age gap ... my 2 drive me potty, their personalities clash really bad

I think the 5 year gap was easiest for me...meant the older ones were at school so i could get 1-1 with baby, but they were old enough to understand that baby needs a lot of looking after whilst being capable of helping too (holding baby, help bathing etc) ...its a lovely gap. Now mine are older though, they're not very close at all. X

Thanks, it’s such a lovely age gap but my eldest is driving me potty haha she’s so curious and over excited about her brother I have to keep reminding her to give the baby some space as she is a bit over excited when hugging, kissing... prodding lol
We show her the right way but she just can’t help herself. It feels a bit of a juggling act at the moment dealing with her emotions new school, new home, new baby I’m not sure we could have thrown anything else into the mix. She has developed a bit of an attitude as well which is quite hard to deal with when we are all sleep deprived. She sleeps well so I’ve ruled out that. It’s so lovely to see But just wondering if anyone else experienced similar with their eldest? X

Oh lord- mine all went wild for weeks when our youngest arrived, they were bouncing off the walls... I think it's a mix of excitement, finding their new place in the family and maybe a bit of jealousy thrown in too? Have you tried Dad taking her out somewhere? Park, cinema etc? Make a big fuss other being the big sister and that only big girls get these special treats and that big sisters have super impirtant jobs at home such as fetching the nappies etc and perhaps reading baby a book at feed times? Gives her a job whilst maybe not poking babys eyes out?! It does get easier I promise!

Oh my word thanks so much I feel loads better reading you’re post, few. She is just full on a the moment. Glad to hear it should settle down. I didn’t realise it would be such a juggling act emotionally for all of us. She naturally is quiet helpful..thankfully I might up her errands haha the bonus of the age gap. Thanks for taking the time to reply x

Same as! The only time they aren't arguing is when they're teaming up against me!
