Today I've had to make the decision to start formula feeding due to a low milk supply and LO not putting on enough weight with being constantly hungry.

I gave her the bottle and she only took just over 1.5oz before falling asleep so I winded her and tried again, but she just wasn't interested and went back to sleep. Such a relief in a way as before, when she pulled away after a feed she would instantly start crying again and not be able to get any milk. I know this is only the first attempt and surely if she is falling asleep it means she is full, but I'm worried she is still not having enough although maybe she needs to build up gradually the amount of milk she is consuming after living on little for the past 3 weeks?!

Am I worrying for nothing?

you may find at her next feed she will take 3oz. You just need to give it time before you start to worry xxx

That amount isn't that bad for a three week old. I depends too when the next feed will be. You have to see how baby feeds over the course of the day. Generally they say baby should eat 2.2 x babies weight. So my boy is 10 lbs. He should eat 2.2 x 10 = 22 oz a day. Sometimes he eats 5 oz other times he'll eat 2 oz. But generally he eats his 22 oz a day.

But to answer your question NO there's no need to worry. It will take you both time to adjust to the new process.

My baby would take up to 1.5-2oz each feeding until 3 *months* - all babies are different. Some do not like large feeds.

Amber is a bugger for drinking 2oz of her 4oz bottle and then falling asleep mid-winding... or she just won't take anymore! We found that the lil madam likes a nappy change at this point :haha: it always wakes her up anyway and brings her hunger back and then she'll usually finish the rest of the bottle xx
