:dohh: omg I hope I don't seem like toooo much of a dumbass!

My little lady is a day old and only seems to take 20mls or so every 3/4 hours or sometimes a lil longer if she's sleeping... is this okay?

The midwives at the hospital said in the first couple of days they aren't really that interested and to just told me to feed what they'll take. When I'm feeding her I'll start out with about 50ml and she'll have about 2 thirds of that in about half an hour and a little more about half hour later..

How long do you think it'll be before she starts taking an oz or 2?

I'm just worrying that I'm not feeding her enough :( x

COngratualtions :) (just saw your other post and she's GORGEOUS!)

Sounds about right from what I remember...in the first week my LO barely fed...but pretty quickly you'll spot her routine, how much she wants etc.

If you're concerned then just call up the midwives and ask, they'll be able to give you proper advice! But as long as she doesn't seem hungry or anything then it's probably fine! x x

Dont worry hun, that's totally normal. Brady didn't have anything for about 18 hours after he was born if I remember right. Even then, for about the first week he would only have about 30mls and I would have to wake him to feed (I had a really long and rough labour and he was a bit jaundiced so totally exhusted for a while).

Dont let her go longer than 5 hours without having anything as she might get dehydrated, but her tummy is still tiny so she wont want much.

Brady loves his food now, after a couple of weeks he was having 3-4 ozs every 3 hours, now he has 7oz every 3-4 hours!

oh, and congratulations!

Trystan took only 10 ml to 20 ml the first few days every 3 hours the first few days ...he gradually made me understand he wanted more ...you will see she will let you know...

Its normal hun, if she wanted/needed more she would take it.

I'd maybe say give it a week and you'll see a change in her feeding patterns.

And congrats too, she is one pretty little girl :)

Congrats. My bbay started with 20ml every 2 hrs, then gradually he started asking for more. dont worry it's normal. within the coming few days her stomach will stretch a bit & she will difinetly consume more.. good luck :D

Esmé was the same when she was first born. The midwife told us before we left hospital to not let her go longer than 5 hours without feeding & to wake her if needs be.

She'll def let you know when she's hungry.

Congrats on your LO. X

I would just wake her regularly and offer, but don't worry if she doesn't take much/any. My baby actually had nothing at all on her first couple of days as I was trying unsucessfully to BF, and she's fine....

Lola started off on 1oz every 4 hours and was struggling with that...she soon got the hang of it though and is up to 2oz already. I think they take a day or two to get used to it :) xx

Thanks ladies :hugs: i feel so much better now (: she's started taking 2/3oz every 4/5 hours now :) :) :) i think she was just getting used to it! yayy x
