Hi there, as some of you know I have my surgery tomorrow and have called the hospital twice and got conflicting info.

1. Eat until midnight, drink water until 6am then nothing

2. Eat and drink until midnight then nothing

When I had my cone biopsy's they let me drink until 6am but now I'm not sure what to do? Anyone know please?

Thank you xx

When I had my D&C last week, the doctor told me that I could have a light breakfast and then nothing until my surgery that evening (around 5 o'clock). I would go with the eat and drink until midnight and then nothing. Better to be safe than sorry, right? It would be awful if they couldn't do the surgery tomorrow because you had eaten too much. What time is your surgery tomorrow?

I have to be there for 8am and then hopefully I will be seen in the morning rather than afternoon, it is day surgery.

Do you have to take antibiotics afterwards or is that not normal?

Hi hun, I nevergot told!! I just presumed i could not have anything.

I ate until 10pm the night before then i had a few sips in the middle of the night until about 5am (as i was drinking a pint of cordial during the night since BFP) I then brushed my teeth at 9am. I was at the ward for 11am and had the surgery a bit late at 5pm! It was hard. But you will be fine hunni. Take care.

When I had my D&C, they put me out with a general anesthetic and then I woke up a couple hours later in the recovery room. I was ready to go home a couple hours after that. They said that I probably wouldn't experience any pain, but that if I did, I could take Tylenol or ibuprofen. I ended up taking some for some mild cramping pains, but that was all. I was fine physically within 24 hours. I've still got some light bleeding, very similar to a really light period. This could last up to a couple weeks, they said. Good luck tomorrow. Try to get some sleep tonight and not worry too, too much.

I was rushed in at 9am and had to have a D&C. I'd eaten about 11pm the night before and had a drink at 8am so they wouldn't do anything till 2pm, apparently they have to allow 6hours.

They used to give a preventative antibiotic if you had something like mitral valve prolapse (one of the heart flaps the wrong way now and then - thats the simple way it was explained to me) among other things (the anathetist will chat to you before hand about all this) however they don't seem to do this anymore.

I didn't have antibiotics afterwards until a few days later but only then because I had pelvic inflammation and Dr wanted to treat it just to be sure they caught any possible infection.

Hope you get a good nights sleep x

i was told if ur surgery is in the morning nothing at all after midnight... if ater 12 u can have brekkie.. my D&C was schedualed for midday and told nothing from 8 pm the night before..

My DnC was done at 9.30 pm (private hopsital) but I wasn't to drink or eat after 2pm that afternoon.

I wouldn't chance it Mrs, if you need a drink, you can get one at the hospital. As for the antibiotics I was given them through the drip thing in my hand whilst in surgery.

Thinking of you
