Nipples sore at 5 months

I have never had a problem bf. I never cracked or bleed or had any pain associated with it. Now at 5 months my left nipple is REALLY tender! My right one is a little bit, but my left hurts so much when she first latches on. What would be causing this?

Is she teething? I get sore when Kaya's teething. Or is she latching herself on? Kaya went through a phase of being really lazy and not latching herself on properly.

I just went throught the same thing. It has to do with the extra saliva they are producing because of teething. I also had a problem when Bren's teeth first came in. Just keep putting milk on after every feed and if you start cracking, go for the Lanosioh. It will pass, took about 3 weeks maybe 4 for me. It really sucked, but we are through it now, and fine. I spoke to one of the LLL ladies, and sounds like it is pretty normal.

Mine get painful when Sam's been latching himself on and not opening his mouth properly but just dragging it in through his gums.

I also had thrush a few months ago and that just started with painful nipples - didn't even cross my mind that it would be something that needed treatment until I started getting shooting pains after feeds. Not suggesting that you have it but if it doesn't get better soon it might be worth having a word with your doctor about it x

Thanks Ladies! I thought about it being thrush, I'll watch for the other signs. I'm guessing it's really what Samantha thread, along with her being lazy with her latch.
