No 12 week scan?

I just went to my "OB Confirmation" appointment, and my doctor says I won't get another scan until 20 weeks. We found my mmc at the 12 week scan last time, and I'm really worried about not having it. It just seems weird to me.

I didn't have a 12 week scan either, but I didn't care because I was terrified! I didn't even want one at 20 weeks, I was so sure something was going to be wrong!

Having said that, if I were in your situation (when I lost my LO, I had some bleeding, so I knew something was wrong), I would definitely try to fight it. If you are looking at 8 weeks of worry, that isn't good for you or the baby.

You should be offered the nuchal scan at 11-14 weeks (tests for down syndrome), I'd ask about that.

Hi Oceandreams,

I don't get that either - i had scans at 6 and 7 weeks but my OB still sent me for a 12wk dating scan (i am in the same boat as you as i too had an MMC diagnosed at the 12wk scan) and it was a HUGE milestone to get over. i can't tell you how much better i feel following the 12wk scan. They moved my dates and did all sorts of measurements (nuchal folds, head, leg, placenta location etc) so i think it is pretty important.

Have you tried explaining your history and your worries? I would be honest and say the anxiety involved in waiting til 20 wks would just be unbearable for you.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will talk to them about it again. I just keep getting nervous every day I'm not feeling super sick.
