We have been ttc for 2 and a half years now. I feel totally in the dark I have read loads of posts on here and nothing seems to get explained to me and I have had no answers. From the beginning...... I have really irregular periods and suffer from anxiety. My periods range from 28-54 days and I have been using clear blue smiley face sticks I seem to have a luteral phase changing each month from 7 to 13 days. I also have spotting before my period starts and i never know when to count as day 1. when i see pink strands brown discharge or bright red blood? period/spotting can sometimes last up to 12 days! i went to my gp after trying for a year I was sent for a ultra sound in case of pocs that was clear. Had bloods - no information was given. Had internal and swabs all fine. Sent to local hospital gyne unit - told to have a hsg. Had hsg and to come back 2 weeks later for results. Results didnt make much sense dye didnt go into one tube but it went in the other so everything fine?!! I was told as long as we can see dye in your tummy don't worry! put on clomid didn't really understand when to take it. That was last week. Started my period - I think tonight with only 7 days since smiley face. I don't have any answers any information and don't know who to ask? Should I call the gp and say I feel kept in the dark and why don't I get any answers? Should I try calling the hospital? Or see if I can go private so i can see if they will answer my questions? When I have asked about my periods been irregular and length I get the answer everyone is different dont worry! Is my situation normal? Do I have unexplained I fertility? Please can anyone advise?

Sounds a lot like my experience.

Those OPK sticks make matters worse. A surge can happen without an egg being released, it's a flaw some of us seem to have.

Day 1 is considered the first day of "full flow", where if it's before midday that's day 1, if it's after, the next day is considered day 1.

LP is meant to be the same, but according to FF my own LP ranges from 6-14 days. I am typically 11 days, this cycle however was 14 days. Vitamin B6 is said to help with regulating this.

Clomid is normally taken CD3-7 but can vary between some clients, for example last cycle I was told to take it 13-17, under medical advice. I was monitored as well, if not you can hyperstimulate the ovaries and end up with too many follicles, this can be a bad outcome.

The HSG sounds like you have one side obsecured, some times the procedure can clear out the tube, or at least open it up enough for the egg to fit through. But you can conceive with one tube, just this can be harder as normally the body alternates the side that it ovulates from, if you're medicated this can be different though.

I'd go private, GP's do not deal enough in refined areas to know what you're dealing with, the private clinics are so lovely to deal with and they seem to care a bit more, but the cost is up there for some things.

Unexplained infertility is the GP's way of tagging you, as "we have no idea", they can investigate more, but sadly it seems we know more about the moon than we do about the human body. Keep pushing for things to be done, see what you're able to be funded for and get in early, as the waits can take forever (for us 14 months for ICSI, on top of or now 12 months of active trying, and over 5yrs without contraceptives).

I would phone and ask to speak to your GP, assuming it was him to prescribed the clomid. Clomid is normally taken for 5 days at the beinging of your cycle, day 1 being your first day of full flow bleeding, so it's taken day 2-6 or 3-7 depending on your Doctor.
If it's a fertility unit who have prescribed it you will normally be monitored to make sure it's working in the first month then left to your own for the next 5 cycles.
The chances of it making you ovulate are something like 80%, assuming it makes you ovulate the chances of falling pregnant within the 6 mth course about the same as a normal couple.

With all the spotting you probably need some progesterone supplimentation as well. I'd get a referral to a specialist. It's best to have a cycle monitored and they can see whether you're ovulating and when and what's happening with your hormone levels before and after.

I agree with 291. GP's know a little bit of everything, but not really enough to treat you for a lot of things, which is why they refer you to specialists. It sounds like your GP has done the appropriate testing, it is weird that he did not go over your blood work with you, but that usually means there was no issue found. I would get referred to a fertility specialist as this will help ease your mind and possibly get some answers and appropriate treatment.

Is your anxiety being treated with meds? Stress can cause irregular ovuation so maybe this contributes to the irregular periods??

Hugs to you and hope you feel better and get some answers soon hun.
