No room for baby!

I have had a clear out to make room for the babies stuff which I will be selling in a car boot sale. More space and some extra money to pay for things!

Our baby will be in with us for the first 6mths to a year anyways so i am not doing up a nursery or anything and tbh have no desire to do up one. Her room will be decorated but not as a nursery it will be a proper little girls bedroom nice bright and colourful.

Dont be stressing about it, even if you had a bigger house its best to have baby in with you for first while anyway and believe me its handier to have them in same room as you so no getting up and down loads during the night for night feeds. I will be placing the crib as close to my bed as possible lol!! Although if i dont start doing a clear out there wont be room in our room for her

We have a spare room but we can't use it for the baby as our landlords bed is in there. Its only a double but has a massive wooden frame and fitted under-bed drawers which are full of his bedding.

We have a chest of drawers in there but its currently got all our sheets and towels in it as we have a general lack of storage space. I'll have to move stuff around to fit in baby clothes.

She will be in our room anyway. I'm not too worried about not having a nursery at this point because she wouldn't be sleeping in there for a good while anyway.

Hi Nypage :hi:

We haven't got a nursery either and won't have for the first few months of the LO coming along - so there will be 3 of us in a small 1-bed flat on the 2nd floor (with no lift and not great access for buggy either). We're in the middle of buying somewhere together but it's taken a lot longer than we hoped and then we need to do a bit of work to it so that it will be ready for us to move in. I've started having a big clear out (it's so hard) to make some room for LO. I think like the others say that the main thing is that the LO feels loved - and also that me and OH still make some time and space for ourselves (we've got a sofabed in the living room so can always use that if we want a bit of space ourselves!). I like the idea of storage units doubling up as changing tables etc - we've also been thinking about separating our clothes (mine and OH's) into winter and summer wardrobes and packing half of it away in boxes so we can make space for LO's things. I know what you mean about wanting to get excited about decorating a nursery - but what about putting some stickers or stencils on the side of some of the furniture to brighten it up a bit? and also we can still hang up mobiles etc over the cot/moses basket. xx

we have LO in with us and he's 1 now!
it was ideal the first few months and he does still wake up sometimes so still ok.
I use 2 drawers for LO's things and some in the wardrobe. I just got rid of clothes I haven't worn in years (we all have them!) to make the space.
It's helped us not buy too many clothes as if I had more space for baby clothes I would fill it with clothes he would never get round to wearing.

I'm also in the same boat, i have 3 kids already and there is no room in with them so baby is gonna have to come in with me. My house is rented and i can't afford anywhere bigger in this area and don't want to rip kids out of school as we only moved here 2 yrs ago. Bubs has a cradle in my room that will do for 1st 6 months hopefully. Can't even fit a cot in my room so don't know what i'll do then, hopefully something will have turned up by that time. I'm really missing not having a room to decorate too though. I'm just gonna buy some nice crib toys, mobiles and stick arounds and put them in the corner of my room that his crib is in. Goodness knows where clothes and everything will go. The idea of a big unit with tv on top in livingroom is a great idea, hadn't thought of that. I don't even have any cupboard space :( I guess we'll all manage and bubs will be too little to know any different any way. Good luck fellow space makers lol xx

We have a 2bed however my room is filled with the bed and draws etc to keep all of mine/oh's and kyles clothes/bedding etc, the second room is kyles but its not big enough for 2 beds without one having to go straight onto a radiator under the window.. So we are moving units around to get a cot to fit in our room and will look once shes 6months old at moving giving chance for there to be somewhere to move to for a good price :hugs:

Same here. We have a three bedroom and currently have two teenage girls that will not share a room! lol. So the baby will be with us for a little bit till we can build an addition. I have been reorganizing like crazy and the vacuum bags for storage are great! We are also building or buying a shed. Hopefully that will help with some of our problems. I also went through my husbands drawers and threw away some of his ratty clothes so we can share a dresser! :haha: Good luck!

Hey hun :hi:

Im in the same boat, we have a 2bedroomed house, me and OH are in 1 room & Tyler is in the other, His room is very boyish, blues, car carpet etc so we were gonna have them in together if we were having a boy but obvs now were having a girl were not gonna be able to do that.
In our room we have a little corner where her cot is and the moses basket, we have also set a small canvas shelve unit up for her clothes that can fold, her dresses, jackets etc are hanging up in Tylers wardrobe.
Its not great but its all weve got so we have to make do.
I feel crappy about not being able to do a nursery this time either :(

At least we can share ideas and feelings on here, it's made me feel a lot better to know there are plenty of us in the same boat. I'm sure it'll all work itself out one way or another and it just gives me more of an excuse to go totally overboard with bub's room when he finally gets one lol xx

We won't have a room for baby either, we could move, but have chosen not to as we would keep baby in our room until probably 2 years anyway. I am a bit sad I won't have a nursery to decorate, but I figure I can still decorate the area around the crib in our room, more of a "baby corner". I have a wardrobe that I have cleared to be half for baby and half for me, it is HUGE so it will be plenty of room, and we will have a crib and changing table in our room also for baby. I figure a rug and some wall decorations with a lamp and mobile and what not is enough decorating for now. And you can always decorate for a toddler or child later, which is more personalized and they can be involved!

I think in some ways it will be more convenient, alot of parents co-sleep with the baby the first few months anyway. It will be comforting knowing baby is right there in the night.

Just try and weed out your stuff as best you can! Have a garage sale or donate as much things as you can to make room..

Also, something to keep in mind is that you can always rent out your house and then go and rent someplace bigger. Don't know if that will work for you where you are, but for example my mortgage + HOA payment is around $1300 and I could actually rent it out for $1600 or $1700. And then if I needed a bigger place (my current place is a 2BR) I could rent a 3BR for around $1800-2000.

Actually something else you could even do is use the projected rental income from your current home to help you qualify to buy another home. FHA only requires 3.5% down.

This is why I actually love owning property, I feel it gives you MORE options as opposed to feeling stuck. Best of luck!!

Izzy thanks but us owning this house is a bad bad deal. It's from the 1800's and has everything wrong and talking apart so its terrible! We need a tornado to knock a huge tree over it! I'm in the ndwest.:) I pray with each storm. Lol.

I am so glad for such awesome ideas in this thread. And thought I was like the only girl in the world without being able to do a nursery! But yes, some day my lil guy will have a cute room. As for now, I also want to make a corner just for baby and have already painted my room for a cute boy color of gray- blue. Basically , its babys room w my bed in it! Lol. If anyone has pics, please post. I would love to see how you've managed.
