Is it normal for a baby to be sick after every feed?

Another thread got me thinking.

Niamh is sick maybe.....4-6 times after a feed. We're not talking a whole lot but enough to soak her. She's winded plenty and get infacol and sometimes colief.

Is she sick right after having a feed or do you mean sick 4 -6 times through to her next feed?

It is either related to reflux, or lactose intolerance. Or sometimes an intolerance to something else your eating.

Mostly right after a feed, but can sometimes have a few episodes of sicking up more than an hour after a feed.

Hmm I do tend to watch my diet very carefully. The colief does help sometimes, so maybe it's an intolerance as colief is supposed to do something to the lactose content.

I wouldn't think it was normal.

She's done it since birth, so I never knew really. Another thread just made me wonder.

Hannah had a bit of sick daily but never after every feed. She is FF though so I don't know if that makes a difference or not :shrug:

Anything else seem "off" with her feeding? Is she feeding well, at good intervals etc?

She cries a lot too after a feed. Its the only time she cries really, and her tummy is rock hard. Even with the colief and infacol.

OH has her just now and she is still screaming after a feed even though she's had 5 burps, 3 farts and sicked up twice.

No, everything else is normal. Tbh she's done this for so long I thought it was normal. She does feed a hell of a lot though.

She sounds like she is in so much pain after every feed. :(

She still gets two formula bottles a day which are the BM complementary ones. Although we're on one bottle a day just now as I'm trying to cut them down. It doesn't make a difference, she is just as sick on her bottle or breast.

Hannah's never acted like she was in pain after a feed. Don't feel bad :hugs: but I would ask your doctor about it

Thanks girls. I think I will get it checked. I just thought it was normal as she's always done it. Poor thing :( I go through 2 muslins a feed with her.

I knew something was up with Brooke but couldnt put my finger on it, i read this post and Brooke fitted it perfectly. Turned out she has reflux

Her symptoms are:

Seems irritable after all/most feeds;
Appears to be in pain - stiffens her body, arches her back (sometimes) will yell out/cry in short bursts and we didn't know why;
Frequent hicups - sometimes quite nasty;
When she is laid flat, she sometimes sounds like she has liquid in her throat that she swollows back down;
When laid flat, she sometimes regurgitates a little of her milk (spits it out);
Sometimes brings milk back when she burps;
Very fidgety/restless in her sleep - makes grunting noises alot;
Her nose is often stuffy - easy to miss - only noticed when GP pointed it out.

It may well not be Reflux but that post helped me, it may end up helping you :hugs:

She does everything in bold after every single feed. :( She's been crying for 30mins solid now and its ear splitting, face going red , in pain screamig.

So what can I do about reflux then?

Jasper would throw up about twice after EVERY SINGE FEED HE"S EVER HAD IN HIS ENTIRE LIFE!!!

Sometimes he'll do more, and very very very very rarely he wont at all.

I dont worry about him -but if your concerned, get it checked out.

Try and keep her upright for as long as poss after feeds, keep her slightly elevated when she sleeps and with feeding i dont know how you will work it because of BF'ing but i give Brooke a couple of oz at a time then wind her, and do it in bits to try and help.

Apart from that there isnt a huge deal you can do without meds. Hopefully its not reflux though, i know how horrid it is to see them in pain.

I've read (and actually we did it with Hannah early on) that you can also prop the head of their bed up to help with reflux (we used phone books :blush:)

Shes done 30mins of solid , painful screaming and then I offered her breast and she had a couple of comfort sucks and is now lying quite happily on me. Awake, but not crying. I don't understand whats going on with her.

Bless her, hopefully your doctor will be able to shed some light on why she's doing what she's doing.

Def sounds like reflux... its common for it t hit around 2 months when they start taking more
