iv just read some of the threads that has put my mind at ease a little but at this point in your pregnancys did you have days when baby was very very quiet? my little darlin has been quiet since sunday night. i still feel very slight movement and i think we had the hiccups this morning but no where near what i have been getting :( im starting to worry now.
usually when i lie on my back i get kicked but theirs been nothing, when im in bed at night i get poked and prodded and kicked but iv had none of that. iv had cold drinks and coke and they usually work
do you think babys just having a few quiet days? i am feeling a little movement every now and then, perhaps babies changed position  this has been such a scary pregnancy so far.

xx

My LO has had quiet days and then active days. Also, I have found that OH can feel movements when he puts his hand on my stomach that I can't feel! There are lots of movements that you can't feel but they are still there. If you really are worried then phone the hospital. They are always telling me to call them if I at all worried about movement.

Hey, I had & I've read loads of other people who say their wee ones have a quiet period around 28 weeks......its just before a growth spurt, so maybe they need the rest :)

Mine went really quiet for about a week leading up to xmas..but these last 2 days it's started booting me constantly and seems to be awake 24hours a day. So i think Emma could be right...the quiet patch before the last growth spurt..collecting its energy.

Ring mwife if you want reassurance..they'll put your mind at ease x

Heya Jackie D...We are due on the same day!!! :)

My little raccoon has been a busy little beaver and I've noticed its movements have been getting much stronger. But I don't get alot of kicks (mostly just squirming movement) as I think bubs is facing and kicking towards my spine.

I'd call your midwife if you are worried, but chances are your little darlin is going through a growth spurt and making the most of all that Chrissy Foods you've no doubt been eating. Hopefully in a few days, bubs will be squirming away so much, you won't know what you were worried about :)

How soon until your next midwife appointment???

im seeing the midwife again middle of january, i think the babies got the hiccups again so iv managed to chillax a little and since i posted this iv been getting kicked or prodded (i think on my cervix!) cause it feels like baby is actually trying to boot or dig its way out down their  hehe.
xxxx

Jacob was really quiet leading up to Christmas and then the week before until now he has just been none stop. Hes kicking me as write this lol.

It's probably just that bubs has moved to a new position (there's still lots of space in there for LO to move about) but if you're concerned you should always phone up to get checked out. You're not wasting their time - it's what they're there for and it'll put your mind at rest (which is obviously good for the baby as well).

Keep us posted x

I went upto L&D at 28wks with the same worry as you..

and was told the lack of movement was more than likely down to
change of position.. i can go DAYS where my lil one quiet
and at 28wks he'd do it for days on end usually about 5days of been quiet
and i wud have gotten soo worked up (he still does it)

I was told at 28weeks
just to watch the babies movements and take a note of them if i have to for reasssurance... 10 movements in 12 hours..
iv actually got my kick/movement chart here beside me at the mo, and waiiting to make my 2nd entry into it.. :/

even lying on my side, pokes, or anythin wont get my lil fella moving when he doesnt want to, not even cold drinks, fizzy stuff or anythin works never has... but deffo once your feeling 10 in 12 hours rather be kick/nudge/.roll etc then all shud be ok..

but if your still worried pop upto hospital for reassurance.. Thats what there there for as iv been told plenty of times:hugs: xxxx

Totally know how you feel! I'm used to the baby kicking the crap out of me .. and last night i noticed he wasn't kicking anymore, just wriggling or a soft movement .. this worried me. I tried shaking my belly and poking him .. that usually makes him kick, but ddn't this time .. i've been researching on the net about his, and alot of people have said they had quiet times around 28 weeks where the baby is growing and there isnt alot of space for him/her to move anymore. Totally put my mind at rest!! .. im 29 weeks tomorrow x

I hear you! I'm going to be 28 weeks on Saturday and my LO hardly moves at all compared to just last week. Is scary but the threads about growth spurts here etc keep me sane....

Bubs used to move all the time it seemed, day and night, especially after food, but today I've only counted 9 kicks (I swear I used to feel 10 or more in a matter of minutes), one more kick to go and I'll feel a bit better.

I think placenta position may still play at part at the mo? Mine is anterior (high) so I think when he moves up there I just don't feel him as much, never thought I'd WANT someone to kick me but I do!!!

xx

Ahhhhh... I've not had much movement yesterday and I'm 28 weeks too... LO has started again now though, but interesting to read this, and put my mind at rest!

Even on "quiet days" you should be feeling 4-5 movements per hour and if you're not you need to call and go get monitored. Doing kick counts is the only indicator we have that the baby is doing okay. It's always and I mean always better to go in and have nothing be wrong than sit at home and worry and have something go wrong and then feel guilty. Or think "maybe if i had gone in." This is what I've always been told when I go in to see if my baby is okay. There is never a reason not to go in if you are worried :)

My baby has quiet-ER days where she only moves 3-4 times an hour but I don't ever not feel her move and if I did I would be very worried.

With my eldest, she wasn't an overly active baby (she is now!! but is 5yrs old) I do think it is due to position in some cases, but with my middle and youngest and little tiny, they have all been very active babies, and I think today my little tiny has had the hiccups quite often bless her.

I think if your really worried about the movements not being so frequent it is always best to ask the mw, then you can be monitored, and be feeling better knowing if little one is OK xx

I Have the same... i have very quiet days and it stresses me out totally.... here is a interesting article i have read... hope it helps :hugs:

FEELING YOUR BABY MOVE

It is generally unhelpful to compare your baby’s movements to someone else’s baby. It may also be misleading to compare your second or third baby’s movements to your first. They really are different little individuals, even at this very early stage.

Compounding the problem even further are differences in maternal perceptions of fetal movements. Some moms notice every little movement while others don’t feel even fairly vigorous movements.

The role of placenta in feeling your baby move
Movements to the front of the abdomen are usually more easily perceived than movements towards the back. If the placenta is positioned in front of the uterus (anterior placenta), it may act as a cushion reducing perception of movement.

Placental position may thus have an effect on what the mom feels, but maternal perception also plays a role. If, for example, mom is very busy, she may perceive fewer movements than when she is relaxing quietly.

Types of movements felt
The type of movements also varies at different stages of the pregnancy.

Early pregnancy
In very early pregnancy, flutters are felt. These develop into stronger “thumping” movements.

Mid-pregnancy
Around 28 weeks the movements become more “wriggly” and “squirmy.” This change in movement pattern is often interpreted as reduced movement and causes alarm. It is simply due to the fact that baby has less space.

What to look out for
What to look out for is a sustained reduction in movement. If baby becomes distressed in the womb, movements will reduce or stop some hours before a disaster occurs. A sustained reduction in foetal movement must therefore always be taken seriously and must always be checked out.

Asking for a non-stress test
If you are concerned, simply go to the labour ward, report the decreased foetal movement and ask for a non-stress test (NST). The midwife on duty will connect you to a foetal monitor and will monitor the foetal heart pattern over about a 20 minute period.

If the pattern is fine, you can safely be sent home. If there is any doubt, your obstetrician will be called and further tests may be necessary.

If there is an abnormal pattern from the non-stress test
If a frankly abnormal pattern is noted, the baby may have to be delivered prematurely as a life saving procedure. Never ignore a reduction in foetal movement and always have it checked out, it may save your baby’s life.

How to assess foetal movements
Numerous methods have been developed to try to objectively assess foetal movements.

Count-to-10 chart
One of the simpler and more practical methods is called the “count to 10 chart”. This is a very simple objective method of assessing foetal movements and is useful in high risk pregnancies or when uncertainty exists. It is only useful in the third trimester as prior to this perception of movements may be inconsistent.

As soon as you wake up in the morning start counting foetal movements. A movement is defined as a distinct change in position or series of kicks. If baby gives 6 little kicks in rapid succession, this is regarded as 1 movement. When the 10th movement of the day is felt, the time is noted and no further counting is necessary. If no movement is noted by lunchtime, or if you don’t count 10 movements in 10 hours, go to the labour ward for a NST.
